Teacher Appreciation Week
I've written several newsletter articles in the past few years about practicing gratitude. I try every day to start and end my day thinking of reasons to be thankful. Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week, so it's a good time to say "merci" to our awesome teachers. Here are just a few things that come to my mind...
1. Thank you to all the teachers who arrive early, stay late, and bring work home- so they are prepared every day.
2. Thank you to all the teachers who volunteer for committees, programs, and special events- so we can make our school a better place for kids, staff, and parents.
3. Thank you to all the teachers who take their own time to attend a class or read a book or do some research- so they can reach a challenging student.
4. Thank you to all the teachers who take extra students or cover a class- so a colleague who has a sick child of their own can leave a few minutes early.
I would urge everyone in our school community to write a note, letting your child's teacher (or maybe a teacher that you had in school) know how much you appreciate the time, energy, and love that they give to this important profession.
Have a great weekend!
Madame Royce
Cherry Principal

School Registration Forms Due Today
This is the last day for Summer School Registration. If your forms are not timestamped
5/4/18, you will be on the Summer School wait list and will not be able to start until the second week.
All 'Intent to Return' forms are also due today. Everyone must fill out a packet online on SchoolMint. If you do not want to attend Summer School, you just answer 'No' and electronically sign the summer school form and summer school transportation form. The other forms are filled out by everyone. Anyone not turning in the 'Intent to Return' form will receive the 'Not Returning' packet next week. Thank you for taking the time to meet these deadlines so we may prepare for next year.
Re-enrollment form links will be emailed in about eight weeks. Please watch for those forms in your inbox.

Oak Journée Culturelle
The Oak Journée Culturelle will take place Wednesday, May 30, 1:30 pm for students and
5:30 pm for families. The theme this year is "Freedoms and Cultures Around the World." Teachers and students are working hard to prepare for the celebration. Thanks to all who are participating!
Parade de la Journée Culturelle
Parents: if you want your child(ren) to participate in the parade, email Mme Mauvois and Mr Moulaye (emails below) the name of the country or the freedom fighter they want to represent and also when they will be able to participate in the parade: afternoon and/or evening.
During the celebrations, students are encouraged to dress as the freedom fighter they learned about or to represent their culture in a unique way. Parents must provide costumes their child would like to wear in the parade. The school will provide flags.
Please note: May 30 is not a casual day; costumes may only be worn after 1:00 pm.
Teacher-Student Rock Band
We still have spots in the band! Students who want to participate can join us every Friday after school in the music room.

Funding for Extra-Curricular Activities
The PTSO currently funds all extra-curricular activities at AL, including stipends. As we prepare a budget for 2018-19, we need your funding requests, please!
Begin by filling out
this form. It must be completed and submitted for each activity, regardless of whether it is an existing activity, an ongoing activity, or a new offering.
Our current extra-curricular budget breaks down like this: 69% Athletics, 24% STEM, 5% Service, and 2% Arts. We would love to see more diversity and balance in the extra-curricular activities offered to our students. If you have been thinking about starting something new for students and need funding,
please complete the form by May 14.

Only 15% of proposals were selected. Thank you again to everyone who voted! Diane was honored to be an ambassador for Académie Lafayette at this prestigious conference.
