"Sea kayaking in 1991 in the Gwaii Hannas, largely uninhabited islands off the north coast of British Columbia, I was fascinated by long-abandoned Haida villages and old-growth Red Cedar and Sitka Spruce. But I couldn't imagine painting the overwhelmingly huge trees while immersed in them. In three weeks, we saw only half a dozen boats, one of which was crewed by a group filming a documentary on painter Emily Carr." Michael Kinsley.
Michael later saw Emily Carr's paintings in the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. This is a show of Michael's new paintings that have been inspired by both by Carr and the Group of Seven (Algonquin Group).
