Celebration of Excellence, College hosts Honors Ceremony and Dinner 
Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Friends recognized at special event     
      
The Texas A&M University- Kingsville College of Business Administration (CBA) presented over 100 awards, scholarships and certificates of recognition on Friday.  The special event was a celebration of college accolades, including the achievement of AACSB accreditation.

CBA annual Honors Ceremony, held on April 27 at the Henrietta Memorial Center in Kingsville, recognized outstanding students for achievements in business.  Junior, Sarah Keith received the Student Leadership Award and Senior Daniel Rodriguez was awarded the Dr. Stephen Scofield Ethics Award. 

Faculty and staff awards were presented to Dr. Dongnyoung Kim-Students' Choice Teaching Award and Distinguished Educator of the Year Award, Dr. Thomas Krueger-Distinguished Researcher of the Year Award, Ms. Leticia Salinas and Dr. Ruth Chatelain-Jardon-Distinguished Service of the Year Award and M s. Selina Kieschnick and Dr. Jesus Carmona received the Distinguished Innovator of the Year Award.

"Best in Business" Recognized at College Event       
Students inducted into International Business Honor Society 

O nly the best business students in the world, and the professionals who earned the distinction of "the Best in Business" during their academic careers, can claim membership in Beta Gamma Sigma. This year's Beta Gamma Sigma inductees from Texas A&M University-Kingsville have certainly earned that title.

The Chapter congratulates the 15 students who have earned invitations in 2018. They join an expanding worldwide network of more than 625,000 outstanding business professionals who have earned recognition through lifetime membership in Beta Gamma Sigma. Students ranking in the top 10 percent of the baccalaureate and top 20 percent of graduate programs at schools accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business are eligible for this invitation.

Students Complete Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program      
500 customers and $791,000 in tax returns to spend in Kleberg County


Members of the advanced tax accounting class and Accounting Society at Texas A&M University- Kingsville assisted community members with their 2017 income tax forms through a program called Volunteer Income Tax Preparation Assistance (VITA).    
The students worked with local volunteers at the Texas Community Credit Union in Kingsville. Students were required to put in a minimum of 16 hours with VITA, but many worked more.  A VITA appreciation dinner was held April 26 to thank all volunteers for their service. 
 
 

Javelina Champion Awards
Business students recognized for their outstanding work 
 
Business students, Lita Ramirez and Robert Longoria, Jr., were honored at the MVP and All Stars Reception on Wednesday, April 18 for being exceptional college students.

The Javelina Legacy Champion award is for student champions who have followed in the footsteps of family members, loved ones, or mentors who are Javelina alumni. Robert is a third generation Javelina who followed the footsteps of his Mother, Cynthia Longoria, who is a double Alum earning her undergrad degree in 2010 and MBA in 2015. While managing school and extracurricular activities, he also works part-time with the TAMUK Business Office. Lita received the Non-traditional Student Champion award, which is for student champions who do not follow the traditional path of college students. While she commuted back and forth to school, she also found time to stay involved within the school and own her own business, Oasis Restaurant and Catering of Premont. Great job, students!  
 
Javelina professor at Equal Pay Day event
YWCA of Corpus Christi raising awareness of unequal pay      

April 10 is known as Equal Pay Day, and its purpose is to educate people about the wage gap between working women and men. The YWCA hosted a luncheon Tuesday afternoon that focused on ways to achieve equal pay. It was held at the First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi.

Associate professor and Director of the Center for Negotiation at Texas A&M University- Kingsville, John Cicala, addressed negotiation skills for women in the workplace. Cicala made the crowd aware of a key factor in the gender pay gap: negotiation. He also told the crowd that they should negotiate more than just pay, such as vacation time, scheduling and benefits.Cicala offered tips on negotiating like knowing your value and realizing that your employer needs your skill set just as much as you need the job. 


 
Entrepreneur Alumni Giving Back        
Students learn about the struggles and rewards of entrepreneurship

Gina Whittington, founder of WHITT, spoke to freshmen business students about her path to success as an entrepreneur. Gina graduated from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1999 with a degree in marketing.  Having always wanted to make the world pretty, she later moved to Austin to pursue her passion of event planning. She shared with students the challenges she faced and the rewards she received for never giving up on her dream.  Students engaged in a Q&A session with Whittington where she encouraged students to network, ask questions and find a mentor.
