Good Afternoon Parents:

This Sunday is the Mass for our First Communicants. The large group celebrates at a 1:30 pm Mass. Our school Mass for our Communicants takes place on
May 23 rd . The children wear their Communion clothes and are recognized by the entire school.

Our eighth grade will be graduating on Saturday, June 2 nd  at the 4:30pm Mass. Since we have 50 graduates plus family and friends, there will be limited space available. Following the Mass, there will be a short break and then the graduation ceremony will take place followed by a reception in the Community Room. I arrived at St. Al's when these graduates were in 4K. What a transformation they have gone through and it is my privilege to have traveled the journey with them.

Students in grades 3, 5, and 7 will be bringing their IOWA test results home next week. This is a nationally normed test which means the students are compared to other private school students across the nation. It is a snapshot in time of their abilities and is only one piece of data in assessing student achievement.

We also use STAR testing which measures student improvement in math and reading throughout the year. This is another tool that helps to get a complete picture of student learning and allows the teachers to individualize student learning. Along with teacher observation, in class testing, projects, and other forms of assessment, we continually work to help our students grow in their learning.

Reminder: Teachers have an in-service on Monday, May 7, so there is no school.

Keep dodging those raindrops and see you in church!

Mrs. Wadzinski
Take our Parent Survey
Since you are your children's first and most important teacher, we are always looking for feedback about our school to continue improving the education we offer at St. Alphonsus School. Please take 5-10 minutes to complete this survey with your thoughts about your family's experience at our school. The survey will close on May 13th. Results will be used to help set goals for School Committee, faculty and administration. Thank you again for choosing St. Alphonsus and for being a true partner in your children's education.

SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
Friendship Without Borders News

Mr. Gerry and the mission team are traveling once again to the orphanage in Guatemala. We are leaving on May 18 th and returning on May 28 th

Once again, we are looking for your help. In the past, the school families have been very generous in donating needed items. This year we are hoping to get donations of new
t-shirts, socks, and underwear for children from the age of 1 all the way up to the age of 17. The biggest group of children right now are around the ages of 9-11, but they could use items for all the ages.

The orphanage has also asked for donations of new backpacks.

There will be a box outside of the school office during the weeks of April 23-27 and April 30- May 4 in which to deposit any donations.

Thank you in advance for your support. If you have any questions, please call Mr. Gerry at 414-704-3670.

SEVENTH GRADERS VISIT SCHOENSTATT RETREAT CENTER

On Monday, April 23, the seventh graders went to the Schoenstatt Retreat Center in Waukesha, Wisconsin.  Their  service project was with the Laudato Si’ Project (LSP), which is a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering its mission by connecting and educating people about the value of our natural world.

The   Laudato Si' Project does a great deal of stewardship and restoration work at the Schoenstatt Retreat Center in Waukesha on a 400 acre property that provides a great atmosphere for weaving together Catholic teaching and environmental stewardship work while being immersed in God's beautiful creation.   The students heard an introduction on Catholic Stewardship and Laudato Si and then hiked to one of the work sites to do invasive species removal and stacking as well as erecting bird houses.

A favorite break activity was eating chocolate chip cookies baked by the Schoenstatt sisters.
