Havana Nights: Lourdes Gala

On Saturday, April 27, 2019, ten Allegany sisters went to Havana! Not Havana, Cuba, but
Havana Nights, the Lourdes Gala held at Vie in Center City, Philadelphia. “The Dance 2019”, presented by the Lourdes Health Foundation, was truly a gala affair with striking ambiance, excellent food and exuberant dancing!
The Congregation was honored as the recipient of Lourdes’ “Healing Spirit Award” for the way it exemplifies the mission and core values of Lourdes. These core values are Reverence, Commitment to Those Who Are Poor, Justice, Stewardship, Integrity, Hospitality and Joy - values that arise from our Franciscan tradition.
Dr. Reginald Blaber, MD, FACC, MBA, President of Lourdes Health System, spoke movingly of the history and tradition of the sisters’ commitment to Lourdes and presented the award to Sr. Margaret Mary Kimmins, OSF on behalf of the Congregation.

Busy hands make for relaxing days

We are fortunate to have many activities here at the Motherhouse to engage our Sisters each day – mental, recreational, physical and spiritual. I would like to mention one that is rich and fulfilling for those of us who give our time to it.
We always had a little "gift shop" where our sisters could display their hand crafts but, with the renovation, we now enjoy a more visible location near the main switchboard. Beginning with a few sisters who used their gifts for making hand crafts, our number has grown and at present we have 15 ‘hand happy’ Sisters going forward.
Our shop boasts hand-crafted note cards, unique designs of pottery, crocheted or knit hats, scarves, baby sweaters, blankets, hand towels with crocheted tops, quilts, socks, coasters (‘mug rugs’) and any novel creation one of us comes up with!

A few years ago we renamed our Franciscan Spirituality Committee to what is now the Franciscan-Clarian Spirituality Committee. This was intentionally done to broaden our focus to a more balanced, masculine-feminine, inclusive way of reflecting and exploring our spirituality. I believe that we have done
well in broadening our focus, our language and striving for greater inclusivity.
However, I often think we can’t stop with Clare or simply focus on Francis and Clare. There have been so many other men and women who have embraced our gospel way of life. We often hear of the great scholars like Bonaventure and John Duns Scotus and saints like Elizabeth of Hungary and Agnes of Assisi.
One perhaps lesser known Franciscan woman was Margaret of Cortona.

BayCare Recognized as Outstanding Workplace
BayCare has recently been in the news both for being a great place to work and for being an advocate for the patients they serve.
Great Place to Work and Fortune Magazine ranked BayCare #7 on the 2019 best workplaces in health care in the country. As a result of this accomplishment, BayCare was featured on
Fortune Magazine’s website
. In the story, BayCare President and CEO Tommy Inzina discusses how BayCare is leading the way in building a positive workplace culture and an extraordinary team to provide high-quality, compassionate care to the Tampa Bay community.
Meanwhile, BayCare leaders met with the Editorial Board of the Lakeland Ledger to discuss their Polk County initiatives and share our perspective on how proposed legislation could impact the communities they serve. As a result of that conversation, the newspaper published an
editorial
on Sunday that recognizes the importance of the state’s Certificate of Need (CON) process.
