WILPF Meet-up on Sat., June 23

WILPF members meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Tent where the Jewish Shabbat service will be held in the large tent at 9th St between Jefferson & Madison to walk together to the Rally at 7th St.

It's important the Poor People's Campaign know you will be at the Rally so enough facilities are available. As a partnership organization, we'd like to give the organizers an estimate of how many WILPFers will be there.

Saturday, June 23
  • 8:45 - 9:30 am Shabbat Service in Tent on the National Mall at 9th Street between Madison and Jefferson. People of all faiths welcome and there will be wonderful singing
  • 10:00 .m - 1:00 pm Rally on the National Mall at 7th St.  between Jefferson & Madison. 
  • 1:00 - 2:30 pm March to the Capitol. There will be no non-violent civil disobedience.
 
The Rally theme is a call to action to return to your state to work to organize the poor and voter registration. Opens with music from the Poor People's Campaign Choir with theomusicologists from around the states. The Choir will sing throughout the rally.

Speakers will be mostly by state delegates and impacted people who will speak on the themes of Systemic Racism, Poverty, Ecological Devastation, and the War Economy. Speakers will be joined on stage and /or introduced by organizational leaders.

Rev. Barber and Rev. Theoharris will close out the program.
 
There will be food vendors. Weather will be hot and humid; there will be water and cooling stations (air conditioned buses to sit in to cool down) . Sufficient PortaPotties will be available.
