District receives clean audit report

The District received a clean audit opinion on its financial statements, compliance with laws and regulations, and internal control over financial reporting for the year ended June 30, 2020. Brad Steele, CPA and partner from Westbrook & Co., P.C., presented the audit results to the Board of Education at its Oct. 22 meeting.

Steele complimented District staff on preparation for the audit and cooperativeness, as well as willingness to implement suggestions for improvement made during the audit. He recognized the Board's commitment to strong financial planning and management.

Board President Ruth Johnson was pleased with the audit report. "The audit shows that our staff is following best practices in financial policies and procedures."

Superintendent Dr. Mike Slagle agreed.

"The 2019-2020 school year ended in a way that no one had anticipated," he said. "This included changes and challenges in the area of school finance. the clean audit work reflects on the hard work of Chief Financial Officer Cyndee Byous and her staff to make adjustments while ensuring the District continues to be the best stewards of taxpayer funds."

After-school tutoring to begin for grades 6-12
After-school tutoring begins Wednesday, Nov. 11, and Thursday, Nov. 12, at the High School and both middle schools.

Tutoring is offered to provide additional academic assistance for students. In a recent survey about the current school year, many parents expressed their desire for additional academic intervention for students.

The tutoring is available from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays for A-day students and Thursdays for B-day students at the high school and middle schools. Bus transportation is available for students who participate.

High School
After-School Panther Tutoring is available for students who are assigned classroom academic tutoring by their classroom teachers and for students on an optional basis, by request. Tutoring is available in math, science, and English Language Arts. A testing room will be available for freshmen and sophomores to make up missed assessments.

Students who need bus transportation must request to be added to the transportation list by the Monday that precedes that week's tutoring. Students should visit with their core subject teacher to have their name added to the transportation list. In addition, students must stay in tutoring until 4:30 p.m. to receive a bus pass from one of the tutoring staff.

Students not requiring bus transportation can leave Panther Tutoring at any time, but must immediately leave the building and campus. Students who attend tutoring with individual teachers not associated with Panther Tutoring or students who attend detention are not eligible for bus transportation.

Middle School
At the middle school level, the program is called PAWS Tutoring, which stands for Practicing Academics With Support. Usually, teachers will initiate the PAWS support for students. The program offers students support while working on academics. Bus transportation is available, or car riders should be picked up by 4:40 p.m.
If you have a question about after-school tutoring, call the school office.
