Dr. George Abel was recently recognized as the recipient of the USA-Kansas Outstanding Service Award.  Abel has been a member of USA-Kansas for 25 years.
District News

2018-19 Enrollment
Online enrollment for the 2018-19 school year will begin on July 16th and run through August 1st.  During this time, families will be able to enroll their student/s online by using the individualized code that will be mailed out on July 14th. Anyone needing assistance is encouraged to stop by Mary Herbert Education Center where staff will be available from 7:30 to 5:30, Monday - Friday.

Convocation
The Back-to-School Breakfast and Convocation will be held on August 15th, at 7:30 am at Emporia High School.

Preschool Enrollment
There are still slots available for 3-4 year old preschoolers at Maynard Early Childhood Center.  Simply go online to enrollment documents and print the application. Applications can then be returned to Maynard Early Childhood Center beginning July 9th from 8:30 -11:30. Call 341-2200 if you have questions.

Kindergarten Ramp Up
If you know of children who will be attending kindergarten this fall and they did not attend preschool, please encourage their parents to sign them up for kindergarten ramp up. Kindergarten ramp up will be held July 16-20, at Riverside, William Allen White and Walnut. Two sessions will be offered:one from 10:00 am - 11:45 am and a second session from 12:15 pm - 2:00 pm.  To register, contact the student's school of attendance for fall 2018.

Board Recognitions
The board recognized Haylee Weiss, a student athlete from Emporia High School. Haylee won the 5-1A state diving competition last month for the third year in a row. Haylee was also named as a first-team all-state selection in diving for class 5-1A.

The board recognized Dr. George Abel who was recently recognized as the recipient of the USA-Kansas Outstanding Service Award. The award is designed to honor an individual who has provided exceptional contributions to their profession and the USA-Kansas organization and who exhibits exemplary leadership to education in Kansas. Dr. Abel has been a member of USA-Kansas for 25 years.

Thank you to the Walnut PTO for it's donation of just under $1600 for transportation costs and entry fees for student field trips.

Thank you to the 79 Fund grant from the Emporia Community Foundation for it's donation of $1,000 to William Allen White to purchase items for expanding the school's Makerspace.

  • approved to continue the Memorandum of Understanding with ECKAN Head Start
  • approved the 2017-18 annual site council report from each of the Emporia Public Schools 
  • approved for disposal of district surplus technology and maintenance items via internet auction and eCycle
  • approved the resignation of board member Michael Helbert from the Emporia Board of Education effective July 15, 2018
