Interim  Rector's Ramblings

OFF TO ROME AND OKINAWA!

St. Paul's-within-the-Walls. The American/Episcopal English-speaking church in Rome

Dear Members of Holy Nativity,

This will be my final Banyan Tree article. I had originally planned to stay as your Interim Rector through June 30 of this year but I have decided to end my interim status with you as of May 31, 2019.

I love you all, but I had an offer I just couldn't refuse. Last year I covered at the American Episcopal church in Rome in exchange for the rectory while the rector was away on sabbatical.

This spring the rector in Rome wrote again to see if I could cover for him the first two weeks of June and the last two weeks of June/July. In the meantime, I was also contacted by my former boss, the former dean of the cathedral in Indianapolis. He has rented a villa in Tuscany for a month for family and friends and he had a free bedroom from June 15 to June 26; did I want to come? (He had no idea I was already planning to be in Italy in June).

What were the chances that this would work out back-to-back-to-back? Free housing for two weeks Rome, two weeks Tuscany and two more weeks in Rome? It was an offer I couldn't turn down.

Now, I've added visits to a few friends in Europe along the way and also been asked to cover at All Soul's English-speaking church in Okinawa in August, again in exchange for the rectory.

As I leave, Fr. Christopher will continue to be with you full-time as the curate for Holy Nativity and your vestry has arranged for Fr. George Clifford to be the Interim Rector ΒΌ time until you are able to call a new rector.

The resumes and applications for a new rector are due by May 31. Your search committee will soon be working their way through the applications and doing skype interviews.

I know you have a great future and wonderful ministry ahead of you.

Blessings,

Cannon Kate+
