Inclement Weather Plans
If there is rainy weather on Sunday morning, we will move the church service and picnic to the church. If we need to make this change we will send an email to everyone on Sunday morning by 8:30 am detailing the change in plans.

UMCE Van Ride to Church at the Ranch
The church van will provide a ride to the Church at the Ranch service on Sunday, June 17.  We will meet around 9:00 am in the church parking lot and depart at 9:15 am.  We will be returning after the service & picnic are over.  Please call Bill Graf at 303-246-8330 if you have questions.

Russell's Ritings....

My favorite poet is not Browning or Keats or Tennyson. My favorite poet lived in Louisiana and wrote poetry and comment for WWL - TV in the 1960s. On his last Sunday night before he retired he read this beautiful poem. It seems sort of apropos for where I am at this point in my journey as we embark Sunday back "home" to Mississippi. Listen to words of Jim Metcalf:

Now I will be going back; back to where my dreams began.

The day I turned, looked back and said goodbye, and walked down the path that led to here and now, I thought I'd taken dreams enough to last a hundred lifetimes.

But now I find that they are gone, and I don't know where they went...how many died...how many spent...how many realized...

I think I must have left a few behind; a few I overlooked. Perhaps they may be there still... somewhere in that quiet, untroubled place, as bright and shiny new as they were when I first dreamed them.

So, I'll go back and look, and hope I find just one to hold and keep alive in the brief and fleeting time that I have left for dreaming.

We have LOVED our eleven years in Colorado, six in Paonia and now five in Evergreen. The years have been very good for us - and hopefully the people we have served. This Sunday will be my last Sunday as your pastor. I commend to you your new pastor, Deb Olenyik. Deb is one of the first pastors I met in CO when she helped lead a seminar for new pastors coming into the Rocky Mountain Conference. She has a great record as a pastor and a district superintendent. I KNOW you will respond to her and the church will continue with even greater momentum in the years to come. Her first Sunday will be July 1, and I will be praying for a great day for the Methodist folk in Evergreen.

This Sunday will be one service only, combining our Cowboy Sunday and Church at the Ranch. We will gather at the Stoll's ranch on S. Wamblee Road in Conifer for this service at 10:30 (see directions printed later in Happenings). Great music, great food, pony rides, ATV rides, and other activities for the children, and my farewell sermon, "HOW TO SAY GOODBYE" (TEXT ACTS 20: 17 - 27).

And we will conclude with a celebration of our shared ministry for the past five years.

I hope to see you Sunday,

Russell (and Diane)

HAPPY TRAILS RUSSELL & DIANE!

This is Carol, office manager here at UMCE. I would like to publicly express my heartfelt thanks to Russell and Diane.  It has been a privilege to work alongside Russell who, in his own words, "works harder than most preachers half his age." As a member of UMCE I've experienced Russell and Diane's pastoral care and as a staff member I have witnessed their commitment to every aspect of running this church and ministering to its members.

Russell and Diane's pastoral care has carried George and me through tough times. I've told the story many times (so forgive me for telling it again) that Diane's peach cobbler kept George going during his cancer treatment. It always tasted good to him! Also during that time, Russell was at the hospital many, many times acting as a calming presence. As a staff member, I remember the countless times when Russell and Diane would pick up "chicken minis" or say "we're making a Wendy's run, what can we get you?" On their well-deserved travels Diane would always bring back presents for the staff. I will always treasure the pottery and other trinkets! Back to the hard working preacher, I can't forget Christmas 2016 when Russell delivered four Christmas sermons in two days while battling the flu. And hardworking Diane, when I put out an email asking for volunteers she was always the first to reply. What will I do without you Diane?

You each have your own stories about how these two people have touched your hearts, provided wisdom or offered much needed practical help. I've asked people to share two words that describe both Russell and Diane. My two words for Russell are "caring" and "faithful." My two words for Diane are "peach cobbler." Russell and Diane are leaving UMCE better than they found us.

Here are some adjectives others have shared about Russell and Diane:

Russell is...
Person of great integrity, the "real deal,"  faithful, wise, beloved, strong, compassionate, pastoral, funny, great administrator, friend, chicken minis, empathetic, caring listener, supportive, head bulldog, visitor supreme, God's steady hand, organized, dedicated Methodist and Christian, diplomat, evangelist, storyteller, reflective, homilist, sage, grits lover, jambalaya expert, thoughtful, hard worker, ice tray police, SPAM inspector.

Diane is...
Loving and lovely, caring, motherly, bubbly, friendly, classy, fashionista, dedicated, compassionate, shoe expert, ambulance caller, funny, Russell's food police, gracious, PhD of common sense, giving, sharing, welcoming, generous, the freezer lady, peach cobbler, cheerful volunteer, hard worker, organized, dependable, engaging.

and the #1 comment for both is... CARING!

"Happy Trails" Russell and Diane as you head back home to warm and welcoming Mississippi. We will miss you!

COME HELP DECORATE THE UMCE FLOAT
 for the Evergreen Rodeo Parade
Friday, June 15th @ 4:00 pm

JOIN US IN DECORATING OUR RODEO PARADE FLOAT THIS FRIDAY, JUNE 15th @ 4:00 PM AT THE CHURCH!

This Saturday we will be lined up along Hwy. 74, but right now we don't know our exact line up position. Look for our UMCE & VBS Banners. Our  float has to be lined up by 9:00 am at latest.

The parade starts at 10:00 am. If you are walking with us or riding on the trailer (room for some) or riding in the van  (towing the float) try to be in line with our float by 9:45 am. Bring a water bottle; we'll have water available for refills.

Everyone wear your western outfits and kids bring your polar animals (if you have any), since we are advertising VBS Polar Blast!

If you are planning on walking and handing out candy or sunscreen (Miss Sarah has the sunscreen giveaways) please remember WE CAN'T THROW ANYTHING FROM THE FLOAT!!  So wear your western hat and shoes that are good for walking.

DON'T FORGET TO WEAR SUNSCREEN WHILE WE'RE IN THE PARADE.

The trailer will return to the church and if we can get you on the trailer or in the van for a ride back, we will try to slow down and pull over. However, sometimes it's very busy since we end up at the corner of Hwy. 74 and Meadow Drive.

Sometimes we can stop at Hiwan Homestead, but we never know how crowded that might be. If you're walking, stay close with our float in case we get a chance to load you up prior to the end of the parade.

Come and join your church family in a couple of hours of Rodeo Parade fun while waving and shouting at your friends watching along the parade route!
