LOS ANGELES SUPERIOR eFILING (CIVIL)
HOW TO EFILE & PAY
A CIVIL APPEAL

2 steps must be completed to properly submit a Civil Appeal:

(1) eFile thru certified, DDS Legal eFiling portal
(2) Pay, in person, $775 appeals fee at Stanley Mosk Courthouse, Room 111 (within 24-48 hours of eFiling)

Note:  Step 2 must be done quickly!  $775 is payable to District Court of Appeals (DCA) and must be delivered before the appeals office has forwarded to DCA.  The appeals office can no longer accept the fee if they've already forwarded.

DDS Legal continues to staff IN-COURT experts and can handle payment of appeal fees.

DDS Legal also continues to obtain judges' signatures, court document retrievals, and deliver courtesy copies.

COMMON REJECTIONS - TRY TO AVOID

As LA Superior continues to improve the digital intake procedure, do not forget "clerk review" must take place to accept or reject your eFiling.

Try to avoid these common reasons for rejection:

(1) COURT RESERVATION RECEIPT.
Print actual receipt (not screen shot of payment made);
Include reservation number with caption of document;
Include actual receipt as LAST PAGE of PDF file, behind proof of service (if proof is included, too).

(2) DEFAULT.
Include proof of service filed as to defendants served.

(3) INFORMATION PAGE.
Include page 2 of Summons;
Include page 2 of Dismissals;
Include page 3 of Writs;
If information pages are not included, clerk will reject.

(4) PROPOSED ORDER.
Proposed order must be scanned as separate PDF file.

(5) SUMMONS FOR GUARDIAN AD LITEM or
SUMMONS FOR COMPLAINT IN INTERVENTION.
Summons will not be filed until granted.

DDS Legal is always here to answer and offer any eFiling help for all statewide eFiling courts.

LOS ANGELES SUPERIOR PROBATE
PROBATE NOTES - NEW

The Probate Legal Unit has started using new software for drafting and posting probate notes for matters on calendar in the probate departments.

The probate notes format will look slightly different to improve their organization and readability for bench officers, attorneys, litigants, and general public.

Probate notes will continue to be posted on the Court's website at: http://www.lacourt.org/ProbateNotes/ui/main.aspx

Beginning May 28, 2019, the new software will be used to generate calendars posted outside of each probate courtroom.
