Grace & Peace,
. .
It will be wonderful in a week's time, on 24 June, to welcome Dr. Henry Ziegler to our parish. Dr. Ziegler is a good friend of African Palms, and his organization has been the recipient of at least six grants. The efforts of his health clinic have spread beyond Dar es Salaam to some of the remote coastal islands of Tanzania. Their approach to the staffing needs of the clinic has been met by raising up residents of the local community and providing the needed education. The work they do is important and endless.
.
Dr. Ziegler will be with us at both 8 and 10am services to share word of his ministry in Dar es Salaam. Following the 10am service, at coffee hour, Dr. Ziegler will also have a presentation with photos. The events of the morning will give a brief insight into some of the work African Palms supports.
.
Earlier this week the board of African Palms met to review grant applications; three grants were awarded. The Reverend Canon Norbert Ayeebo was awarded a grant for his parish school in Ghana to furnish classrooms with desks for the students and teachers. This was the project that he spoke so passionately about during his visit in April. A grant was awarded to an Anglican diocese in Burundi for a water project. Additionally, a grant was awarded to the Diocese of Masasi to supply water to a medical clinic in a remote area. It is wonderful to be able to send needed funds to Masasi and our friends Bishop James and Father Linus; we are so thankful for their ministry and the hospitality they showed during our visit. We look forward to working with them on many more projects.

African Palms is quiet now that the prime selling season is past; the focus during this quiet time is making plans for next year. Sadly those plans will not include Lynne Tauber, she has announced her retirement effective 1 September. Lynne has been an important part of African Palms for five years but her retirement will not end this relationship; she and her husband Jim have indicated a desire to continue as volunteers.

African Palms is an important ministry of this parish, our second largest ministry behind the school, and our relationships with our friends in Tanzania is important and vital to the work that we do. Those relationships extend beyond the framework of African Palms, we call many of these people our friends – our brother and sister; and that is a glimpse of the kingdom.
