NEC2020 Call for Presentations Now Open

If you have expertise in the latest advances in earthquake engineering, best practices for outreach and education, building science and code advancement, and policy initiatives that improve resilience, the Program Committee invites you to submit a presentation abstract or session concept for the 2020 National Earthquake Conference (NEC) March 4-6 in San Diego, CA.

Sponsorship opportunities are now available  to spotlight your business or organization and allow you to network with leaders in the earthquake and tsunami preparedness movement. The NEC is a quadrennial event providing a unique opportunity for engagement and sharing amongst academia, building code experts, engineers, businesses, design/build professionals, FEMA Directorates, first responders, geologists, local emergency managers, insurance and reinsurance professionals, local and tribal governments, private sector practitioners, U.S. State and Territorial Earthquake Managers, NEHRP Agencies, and volunteers.

Partner Profile - Jon A. Heintz

Jon A. Heintz is the Executive Director of the Applied Technology Council (ATC). Heintz joined ATC in 2005 and is responsible for project management, oversight, and quality control on the development of ATC products and publications. He has managed more than 50 major ATC projects involving earthquake, wind, coastal inundation, and man-made hazard mitigation issues, including performance-based design, soil-structure interaction, and general structural design issues covering the spectrum between commercial and residential building construction.

Q: What is the background/history of your organization?

A:  I am a former structural engineering design practitioner and current Executive Director of the Applied Technology Council (ATC) in Redwood City, California. I have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's degree in Structural Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

ATC is an applied research organization, founded by structural engineers in the early 1970s to transition the latest engineering research into cutting edge engineering practice for hazard mitigation. Initially focused on earthquake hazards, ATC's current work is multi-hazard, with products and reports addressing seismic, wind, flood, and terrorist attacks. Over its 45-year history, ATC reports have helped define the evolution of structural engineering practice and formed the basis of seismic and other structural design requirements in building codes and standards.
