WWA and other waterfowling groups have been trying to get the legislature to increase the duck stamp price to account for its loss of purchasing power in the 21 years since it was last updated. This waterfowl stamp funding is used for the wetland restoration work accomplished around our state that is critical for the pairing, breeding and life cycle needs of our Wisconsin waterfowl.
This proposal has been supported by WWA members by greater than 90% in our recent surveys. The opportunity to make that change is now in front of us - and we need your help to keep it moving. The first critical step is inclusion of the proposal in the Joint Finance Committee’s budget proposal. You can help if you take action now to contact your Wisconsin legislators.
Please reach out to
your legislators. Should you wish to use it, we have included some sample wording for your message:
"I am a Wisconsin waterfowler and I support increasing the duck stamp fee to catch up with its inflationary shrinkage since 1997. Please support Representative Skowronski’s budget amendment to the Joint Finance Committee."
Memory check: Do you remember purchasing the Wisconsin duck stamp back in 1997? What were you doing then? What were the headlines? How much did you earn? What was happening in your life?
I was just at the DNR waterfowl stamp advisory committee last week. This group considers the wetland restoration projects that organizations like WWA and the DNR nominate to receive Waterfowl Stamp funds for use on
habitat restoration projects. We didn't even get half way down the list of worthy projects before running out of available duck stamp money. We need your support!
