St. Paul's Annual Parish Picnic
May 20th, PENTECOST,
after the 10:30 service

Please bring a generous side dish - enough for your family and many more. (e.g. salads, beans, casseroles, rice, cookies, etc.)
St. Paul's provides the chicken, biscuits and drinks.
Lawn games, bingo, and a Super Slide for the kids! Plus, you never know how high you might soar at the picnic.
Plan to attend this fun time of food and fellowship with our Sudanese community!

Rector's Notes
Miscellany
The Rev'd Jonathan Callison, who for a long time you knew as parishioner Jonathan Callison, has now been serving as a priest of the Episcopal Church. Fr. Jonathan is parochially attached to St. Paul's by the Bishop of DioWeMo as a non-stipendiary, bi-vocational priest. At this time, his full-time paid job is as a public school teacher on the Kansas side of State Line Rd. His obligations in the Diocese of West Missouri include being available to supply in congregations as needed and to provide support of Spanish language ministry as requested. When he is not otherwise committed on Sundays, he will serve at St. Paul's. Two Sundays a month we schedule him as either preacher or celebrant at St. Paul's. He also does the Wednesday night Eucharist at 6 p.m. He continues many things at St. Paul's that he did as a lay member (e.g. the apiary). Fr. Jonathan joins Deacon Bryan England as clergy resources assigned by the Bishop to our parish. We are excited to have both of these devoted clergy as a part of our parish.
At the April meeting of the Vestry, the Rector was authorized to explore possible candidates to serve as a full-time assisting priest at St. Paul's. I have already reached out to several seminaries to identify possible candidates. As we progress on this matter, we will keept the parish informed.
On another matter,
A casual evening gathering is planned for families with young children (approximately 3rd grade and younger, but we're not picky!) on Saturday, May 19th. Please contact Whitney Hosty

St. Paul's Day School
is working on its final fundraising project for Holy Cross School. The School Community is seeking to raise funds to help create a French language children's library at HCS, Ravine a l'Anse, Haiti. The 8th Annual First Grade Lemonade Stand is scheduled for TODAY, Friday May 4th. Whether this project or one of the others undertaken over the next few weeks, please support the effort to share the joy of reading to their brothers and sisters at Holy Cross School.

Adrien Dormeil
For at least the past six years Mr. Dormeil has taught students at Holy Cross School. During that time he has established himself as a respected member of the faculty. Each time members of the Haiti Outreach Committee visit the school they hold a teachers' meeting to discuss issues and ask for recommendations of any needs. During our most recent oversight visit last February Mr. Dormeil stated that it would be good for the students to have a lending library of books in French. Most of the rural students live in homes where the parents do not read and only speak Creole, not French. He pointed out that his primary 6th grade students would benefit from being able to take home readers and stories in French so that they could practice the language off campus. Having a library would enable the students to continue the study by reading at home.

last Sunday, you missed out! It was a fun, delicious event and kudos to the Rudys and the Franklins for doing such a wonderful job with the planning and execution. Also big thanks to everyone who brought food for
Ministry Sunday
the week before. I felt like that was well-received and I know there were some new and new-ish people who were able to learn more about all the amazing things going on at St. Paul's.
We're still looking for judges for
Cake Sunday
this weekend - if you can help, let me know. Or if you can help set up the Undercroft that morning (tables, tablecloths, setting up coffee, etc.), I would appreciate it, as Jose will not be there.

Parish Picnic
! I hope all of you plan to attend. We will have chicken and biscuits from KFC and we will again ask attendees to bring a generous side dish. If you are able to help with set-up or clean-up,

. Entertainment will consist of an inflatable slide for the kids (and young at heart) and lawn games. If you have a lawn game that can be borrowed for the picnic, please let me know on the

or by email or text. If you can't make it that day but still want to offer your game, we can arrange to pick it up ahead of time!
Finally, if you would like to host a TGIFF (Thank Goodness It's Fellowship Friday) during the summer,
please let me know. These are fun, casual gatherings usually held on Friday evenings starting around 5:30. Sometimes the event is potluck style, sometimes the host provides the food - whichever is preferred by the host. Parish Life can provide beverages and paperware.

 From the Choir
This Sunday's 10:30am Choir Anthem will be one of the most famous choral gems, and one of my absolute favorites, Ubi Caritas by Maurice Durufle. Durufle was a famous organist and composer of sacred music in Paris, France in the middle part of this century. Durufle was probably his own greatest critic as he only published a handful of pieces. Almost all of his pieces are considered masterpieces of choral and keyboard music. Ubi Caritas is one of 4 motets that he published using original chant melodies.

Senior Commodities
St. Paul's Episcopal Food Pantry is looking for a regular volunteer(s) for the Senior Commodity program on
Wednesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
We urgently need some volunteer leadership on Wednesday evenings for this important food program!
This is a perfect volunteer opportunity for couples or for students who need service hours! The program serves Missouri residents who are 60 years of age or older and meet certain income requirements. The volunteer opportunity involves taking applications, checking the clients in and possibly helping them carry out their food boxes. We generally serve approximately 20-25 clients on Wednesday evenings.

Hosting Coffee Hour is a fun and easy way to get to know other St. Paul's members! The host brings the food and the church provides the drinks. An example of what a host might bring would be: two large pans of brownies (cut very small), maybe a bowl of fruit (oftentimes grapes cut into small clusters), and a bowl or two of pretzels or popcorn.
