Welcome for Tubaugh's
Blessings SUMC Friends,
July 1st fast approaches us, and we welcome Pastor Brody, Maddie and the twins! We look forward to celebrating with them that Sunday with one service at 10:00 a.m. Immediately following the service, a potluck will be held for their family and our congregation. To pull this together, we would appreciate the following help from our members:
  • Set up on Saturday, June 30th at 9:00 a.m. This will entail setting up tables and chairs, putting up decorations, and getting the kitchen prepared as much as possible.
  • Sign up for side dishes and desserts to supplement the generous donation of pulled pork and ham that will be made into sandwiches as our main meat options.
  • Sign up for supplies needed for potluck in addition to food.
  • Sign up to donate for the Tubaugh's Welcome Basket. We will have a list of gift cards that we would like to purchase so their family can explore the area with visits to locale restaurants, ice cream shops, kid friendly activities, etc.
  • Sign up to donate a freezer meal or drop off a meal to the family on specific dates.

The move to Shueyville will take a lot of work for the Tubaugh's and we want to make it as smooth for them as possible. By donating to the potluck or the Welcome Basket, you will be making their lives just a little easier. Please consider helping in one or more ways to create a warm and inviting environment for their family.

If you would like to make a monetary donation to go toward supplies for the potluck OR toward a gift card purchase, please write a check to SUMC and deliver it to the church office. In the memo line of your check please write as to what it should go for. We will make good use of any donations we receive.

Thank you in advance for your help, your caring and your excitement at this time. We have a lot to be thankful for now in our future at SUMC!

Changing of the Guard
On June 24th, we will say goodbye to Pastor Jim Dotson. He came to us in October as our interim minister, but has sung and played his way into all of our hearts. He has helped bring our church from a difficult time into a loving and caring church which embraces diversity. We have come to understand that we don't all need to think alike as long as we worship our One God and Jesus and follow his two greatest commandments: Love God and Love Your Neighbor as Yourself. We are asking for you to give a love gift by June 17 as a thanks for all that Pastor Jim has done for our church when we needed strong leadership. Please note on your check Jim Dotson.
This will be a gift and not a tax deductible church contribution. Then come and wish Jim a great future and many thanks for what he has done for this church on the last Sunday in June and join us for cake after each
service in the Family Life Center.

On July 1st, we will welcome our new Pastor, Brody Tubaugh who will be preaching his first sermon at a 10:00 a.m. service held in the sanctuary. This service will be followed by a potluck lunch and a chance for us all to meet Brody and his family. We look forward to a new beginning and would like all the congregation to help welcome him into our church family. You may have noticed that our church offerings have been lower than we have had in the past. If you would like to give an extra gift or start a monthly automatic giving to the church, that would be an awesome way to welcome our new pastor. We look forward to where the Lord will lead Shueyville United Methodist Church and how we can bring his Kingdom into Shueyville and around the world. There will only be ONE service as we welcome our new Pastor and his family. Come and worship with us!!

Project Opportunity for one person or small group.
Good weather has everything growing. The outdoor prayer garden on the east side of the sanctuary needs some loving care. Anyone willing to put some time into beautifying this area can contact Rick Less or any trustee. Any amount of time is appreciated or if someone would like to take it on as a summer project, there are many possibilities. Thanks from the Trustees.

Coordinating Our Building Use
Are you needing a place at the church for a committee meeting or event? Please note that ALL scheduling of the building's use must be cleared and scheduled through Julie in the church office. This is not a "permission" issue, but we do need this central location for keeping track of the building's activities (we are thankful to be able to host a growing number of Boy and Girl Scouts this year!). Just drop an email or phone the office (848-7213), so there are no surprises. Thank you!
