It's Iris Festival Time In Greeneville!
Approximately 100 booths have already been reserved for the 24th
Annual Iris Festival that will be held May 19-20 in historic downtown Greeneville. Returning to the festival this year is the "Sundown on Depot" Car Show. This featured activity will be joining the Evergreene Woodcarvers Competition Show & Sale, the Miss Iris Festival Pageant, continuous entertainment on two stages, and a food court offering all kinds of delicacies. A free shuttle will be available during the hours of the show Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. For more information on the festival, visit

Youth Council Receives Award
The Greeneville Sun and Youth Builders of Greeneville recently awarded the Greene County Youth Council Program the Volunteer Spirit Award for the 15th consecutive year.
Agribusiness
The Agribusiness Committee is preparing for the following events: June Dairy Day Celebration Friday, June 1,
from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Greene County Fairgrounds Livestock Pavilion. The event will feature contests, entertainment and free dairy product samples. The Beef Day Celebration will be held on Friday, July 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the same location. There will be contests, entertainment and free beef products to sample as Greeneville and Greene County pays homage to the dairy and beef producers.

Swing Into Spring Winners
Walmart Supply Chain won the Iron Eyes Cody Traveling Trophy at the Keep Greene Beautiful Golf Tournament April 19. Members of the team were Brian Bragdon, Randy Duncan, Denny Turner and Brad Whittenburg. Runners-up were members of the Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice: Clyde Allen, Al Fine, Taun Fine and Corbin Norton. Contest winners were Brian Bowers, Corbin Norton, Brad Whittenburg and Michael Wininger. ETSU Game Time Tour
The Sports Council will host the East Tennessee State University Game Time Tour on Tuesday, May 15 from 7:30-9 a.m. at Reformation Lutheran Church. The event will offer a free breakfast as well as the opportunity to meet and greet with ETSU head women's basketball coach Brittney Ezell, head men's basketball coach Steve Forbes, who will also be the featured speaker at the Sports Council's luncheon July 17, head football coach Randy Sanders and ETSU Athletic Director Scott Carter. NJCAA DIII World Series

Tourism's Sports Council is finalizing plans for the 2018 National Junior College Athletic Association's DIII World Series that will take place May 25-31 at Pioneer Park.
More than 300 players as well as coaches, trainers, families and fans will descend upon our community for five days.
The timeline of the event will be as follows: Kids' Day at the Park - a free event for kids 12 & under with free hotdogs and chips provided by Grand Rental Station and Nathan's Concrete. The event will also offer attendees the opportunity to meet and greet with the student athletes, get autographs and watch World Series level practice. That night, the Council will host more than 450 guests for the season ending awards banquet sponsored by the City of Tusculum, with MLB pitcher Aaron Small as the guest speaker. World Series play will begin at 9:30 on Saturday, May 26 and will run through Wednesday, May 30 with the 31st as a rain date. Tournament passes are $35 and daily passes are $8. Sponsorship levels beginning at $500 and up to $5,000 are still available. Civil War Sites & WCYB
Tourism hosted a Civil War taping with Ricky Matthews from WCYB earlier this month. The tour, led by historian Tim Massey and assisted by R.J. Wilkerson, encompassed the Bridge Burners story, the Battle of Blue Springs and the Bible Covered Bridge. The story is set to run on a Friday and Saturday with dates to be announced. Tourism is also teaming up with Massey and Wilkerson to do several 50 second to 1 ½ minute vignettes featuring more Civil War Sites across Greene County.
GCP Tourism will celebrate National Tourism Week, May 6-12.
National Travel and Tourism Week is an annual tradition for the U.S. travel community. It's a time when travel and tourism professionals across the country unite to celebrate the value travel holds for our economy, businesses and personal well-being. Tourism will be awarding five Presidential Pioneer in Hospitality winners nominated by the community, presenting the 150
th
visitor at the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site with a gift basket of Greeneville goodies, visit the Bristol and Kingsport Welcome Centers and attend the Northeast TN Tourism Association's Pinnacle Awards in Kingsport.
Service Learning Partnership with Tusculum College
Tourism has teamed up the Service Learning class at Tusculum College on two projects over the last block. The first was the new Greene County visitor guide and accompanying magazine and the second being the new Student Travel itinerary project. Tammy Kinser attended the presentations on Tuesday, May 1. Tourism plans many more projects with the Service Learning students in the near future. A special thanks goes out to Tusculum College, instructor Katherine Everhart, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Sociology and her class for their help and creativity.

As education and workforce development continue to become more and more important to our growing workforce, I want to thank all of the participants of the 1
st Annual Greene County Career Expo. With over twenty employers represented, local individuals had the opportunity to come out and visit with those present to discover a new career path and how to obtain training for employment. We're excited about education & workforce development events hope that this one continues to grow in the years to come. In this economy we all know that it's important not only to showcase available jobs in the community, but also to showcase how diverse our employment base is.
In the coming months you'll continue to see our synergy between education, business, and industry grow.
