Help Get Medicaid Expansion Across the Finish Line!
Please view this short video from Governor Northam where he expresses his appreciation for all the work done by advocates to support Medicaid expansion in Virginia. VBCF strongly agrees with his sentiments and thanks you, our dedicated Advocacy Alert network, for all your efforts. But, the fight continues.
In April, the VA General Assembly reconvened to work on the biennial state budget. During this special session, the House of Delegates passed an updated budget that includes Medicaid expansion. The Senate, however, failed to act by April 10th. They also cancelled their Senate Finance Committee meeting scheduled for April 18th.
The Senate will convene again on May 14th. A majority of Senators support passing a budget with Medicaid expansion, yet leadership is stalling the process. This delay on finalizing the state's budget hampers the ability of local governments and sheriff's offices to plan their budgets, and it continues to delay implementation of health coverage for nearly 400,000 Virginians.
We encourage you to continue to contact your state senator with this message:
