Register for Vacation Bible Camp
We invite 4k (by September 1st, 2018) through 5th graders to join us on a voyage to Mars and beyond! During Vacation Bible Camp we will go on a journey through space using music, crafts, games, skits, Bible Study, science, and more to explore where God's power can take us. VBC will be June 10-14 from 9:00-12:00 each day.

Please let the church know if you are not able to pay for VBC. We do not want any child to miss this great experience because of money.

No Sunday School This Week
We will not have Sunday School for preschool children, elementary children, or students (6th-12th grade) this coming Sunday, May 26. We invite you and your family to attend the Joint Sunday School lesson about our upcoming Tanzania mission trip in the Fellowship Hall, or to attend Traditional Worship in the Sanctuary at 8:30 or 11:00 am, Contemporary Worship in Tyson Hall at 11:00 am, or the Service of Word and Table in the Sanctuary at 9:45 am. Nursery and childcare will be available for infants through 5k. We hope you enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!
Memorial Day Schedule
The church office will be closed and all regular activities will not meet on Monday, May 27, as we observe Memorial Day.
New Life Singers Homecoming Concert
Don't miss the New Life Singers Youth Choir in their Homecoming Concert. NLS will arrive home from their choir tour on Wednesday, May 29 and will perform all of their tour music at 6:30 pm in the Chapel. All former NLS members are invited to come and attend and join us on "O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing."
Join Our Next Fidget Mat Sewing Bee
Our next Fidget Mat Bee will be on Tuesday, May 28, from 10:00-2:00 in the Fellowship Hall. Cleaning out your jewelry box, linen cabinet (place mats), old broken toy box, or sewing drawer? We need stuff that we can place on activity mats for people with dementia. Zippers, patches, anything we can attach that will allow a person to twist, pull, open, squeeze, rub, or remember! No sewing ability is required in assembling the mats! Bring a teenager!
Volunteers Needed for VBC
Vacation Bible Camp is headed all the way to Mars this year, so we need some help! It takes so many people to make this exciting week happen, and we want you to be a huge part of that. VBC will be June 10-14 from 9:00 am to noon each day. We would love for you to join us for this fun week!
  • Adults:  We still need people to lead elementary small groups from one activity to the next, and we still need some help in the elementary craft room. For any questions, please email Jamie Meeks ([email protected]).
  • Students:  If your student is interested in volunteering, please click on the link and fill out the registration. For any questions, please contact Kathryn Groat ([email protected]). Registration is due by May 24.

5th Grade Splash Adventure
5th graders who attend Vacation Bible Camp have the opportunity to finish out their week at Splash Adventure! After VBC ends on Friday, June 14, they will meet in the Student Ministries Cafe, have pizza for lunch, and then go to Splash Adventure. 5th graders must be registered before June 1 and there are limited spots available. Please contact Jeremiah Stone ([email protected]) with questions.

Summer Music Lessons
The Conservatory is now registering for summer music lessons. Want to take voice lessons, learn to play the saxophone, clarinet, piano, guitar, or ukulele? What about the viola, violin, or cello? We also offer percussion, brass, and flute lessons. Let us know what you would like to learn to play. The COA welcomes students and adults alike to sign up for lessons on your preferred instrument. Lessons in the summer are more flexible, so you will work out the exact days and times that you can come with your music teacher. For more information, contact Ellen Bryant ([email protected] / 769-0123).

Vestavia Dance Performance Company
Vestavia Dance Performance Company (VDPC) is a community of dedicated young leaders within our dance ministry that strive to perfect their talent. Company members endeavor to advance their personal dance education and contribute their best to a team. VDPC requires hard work and a high level of commitment born from a place of passion for the art of dance.

While we compete to win, our program is not solely about winning. Our mission is to nurture the improvement of our members as dancers and people by holding them to higher standards. The dancers work every day to achieve their fullest potential, which looks different for each one. We balance discipline, respect, and focus with encouragement and support.

During the 2019 season, company members successfully developed 15 different team dances and 4 solo dances. A total of 68 dancers represented VDPC locally and in Atlanta at eight competitions and three conventions that included 24 SEVEN Dance Convention, Applause Talent, Hollywood Dance Jamz, KAR (Kids Artistic Revue), Masquerade, NUVO Dance Convention, Showstopper, and VIP Dance. For more information, please contact Angel White ([email protected]).
Library Self-Checkout
A new self-checkout cart has been placed outside of the day school area. Please swing by and check out some of our interesting titles that have been specifically chosen for kids of all ages! This cart was placed in memory of Nannette Smith.

Provide Life-Changing Scholarships
Since December of 2018 the VHUMC Foundation has provided 25 education scholarships from their appropriately designated funds totaling over $50,000 to deserving students within our congregation and conference. This is possible through the generosity of donors who have seen the need to assist students in colleges and seminaries. In many cases, these funds become life-changing to the students and those whom they impact. If you are interested in helping provide scholarships, please contact John Sweeney ([email protected]).
Holy Land 2020
VHUMC will be returning to the Holy Land in 2020. Join Dr. Bill Brunson on a 10-day Holy Land journey, February 4 -13, where we will visit The Sea of Galilee, Capernaum, Mt. of Beatitudes, Jerusalem, Masada, The Dead Sea, and much more. Space is limited and the trip is almost full. For more information, and registration, please contact Jim Frazier ([email protected] / 769-0126).

Discovery Weekend 2019
Registration for Discovery Weekend is now open! Discovery is a jam-packed, three-day weekend of messages, worship, small group discussions, and activities designed to jump start the school year and help our students continue to make their faith their own. It is designed for high schoolers to develop leadership skills and pour into middle schoolers by leading D-Groups, sharing in messages, and in worship. Discovery is the most exciting, spirit filled, and fun weekend your student will attend all year! So come be a part of this amazing weekend on August 2-4! For more information on Discovery Weekend, or if you would like to volunteer, contact Alice Bell Baker ([email protected] / 769-0137).

Parent's Night Out
Parent's Night Out is a laity led ministry designed to enrich the marriages of couples with children ages 3 months through 5th grade by providing a loving, safe and fun-filled time for their children while parents enjoy an evening out together. It's "families helping families grow stronger." We are currently accepting registrations for limited space for the 2019-20 school year. For more information, email Julie Bray ([email protected]).

The Price of Freedom
Our military forces risk and sometimes sacrifice their lives to protect our freedom. How can we honor them for serving the nation they love? This video illustration says "thank you" and can be used for a Memorial Day service or other patriotic holiday.

Be sure to register for this free resource! Text rightnow vhumc to 41411 to get your link to create a profile. Then watch 2,000+ Bible studies, talks, kids shows, youth studies, and movies. You can also contact Suzanne Scott-Trammell ([email protected]) if you have questions.

May Memory Verse
Our 1st - 5th graders are taught a different Bible verse each month, and have the opportunity to recite the verse before or after Sunday School in the elementary office for a sweet treat and chance to win an electric scooter at the end of the school year. We hope that these verses help to guide them throughout their lives. May's memory verse is: "Know that the Lord is God. It is He that made us, and we are His; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture." - Psalm 100:3

We are buying from the Community Food Bank and are now receiving frozen meats as well as canned goods and staples. We also buy from our local Farmers Market. Thank you for your continued support of this ministry that serves 500+ families each month. Thanks also to our 60 volunteers that help with the pantry!
