A new studio's coming our way. The board of directors, the staff, the members and the folks who attended our birthday party were all part of the effort that got us to the fundraising goal for the Broadcast Equipment Capital Campaign. The final push came when the Mass Cultural Council recently announced that the station has been awarded a grant from the Cultural Facilities Fund in the amount of $95,000. Major kudos go to Executive Director John Braden and assistant grant writer Christine Frisco for all of their hard work in making the case to the Council on behalf of the station. Thanks also go to Governor Charlie Baker for his support of the Cultural Facilities Fund. Some capital improvements, such as the installation of a generator at our Provincetown transmitter, have already begun while construction of the new studios at the Schoolhouse will begin in the fall.

While the Mass Cultural Council may have provided the cherry on top, the substance of our ice cream sundae comes from our people. The month of good feelings started with our birthday party on April 14. We raised a bunch of money from the auction of a (nearly) overwhelming amount of high quality art donated to the cause. On one level, the proceeds were the point of the exercise, but it was even more rewarding to see everyone come together in the name of our community radio station. The weather cooperated as everyone got a chance to share a smile and celebrate the unique gem that is Outermost Community Radio. Literally hundreds of people contributed their time and treasure to make the event a success, and it was successful beyond our wildest imagination. Thanks to everyone who played their part. It'll be tough to top this one, but we'll see you at the celebration of our 38th birthday next spring.

It's hard to believe that news of a smashingly successful pledge drive is bumped to the third slot in the newsletter, but there you have it. Perhaps it was the afterglow of the birthday party, the cheerful dedication of our DJs or the remarkable efficiency of unflappable office manager Chris Boles, but it's likely all of these things and more that inspired our supporters to come through with flying colors again. Any anxieties we may have felt as we launched our pledge drive on the heels of raising funds for capital improvements were allayed as the phones rang and the donations flowed in. It warms us to the cockles of our hearts to know that people appreciate the work we all do together. Thank you.

On Friday and Saturday evenings this Memorial Day Weekend, WOMR is proud to present comedian and crooner Poppy Champlin. As one of the Queer Queens of Qomedy and a frequent performer in Ptown, Poppy is sure to fill the Davis Space at the Schoolhouse on the  24th and 25th at 7:30.

We're thrilled to announce that the Wellflleet Sprint Triathlon has sold out in advance. The race will go off on the morning of June 1 in and around Long Pond in Wellfleet. Brad Kaplan and Iona Sea Farms have donated a raw bar with 100 pieces of shellfish and all the fixins. You can have Brad feed the folks at your next party if you're the winner of the silent auction with proceeds to benefit the station. Auction closes May 31.

Pianist Anna Beliakovich will present a recital featuring works from Bach, Schubert, Bartok and others on Saturday June 15 at the Wellfleet Congregational Church. Piano recital tickets are available here.

We have a couple of DJs moving to new spots on the schedule. Billboard Bob is moving his Charted Course to Thursdays from 5-8pm and Special K (Kyle Chirgwin) is moving his Side B Deeper Cuts into Bob's old spot on Thursdays from 9 to midnight. We look forward to both Bob and Kyle getting some new listeners in their new time slots. On the other hand, we bid a fond farewell to David Panagore who resigned from his Town Talk program as he stepped down from his post as Provincetown's Town Manager. David declined to take us up on our suggestion that he might be more inclined to talk about the town without the constraints of his role in government. Speaking of resignations, we're sad to say that Stu Murray's Bebop and Beyond will no longer be heard on alternating Tuesday evenings, but we look forward to seeing who takes advantage of the opportunity afforded by the opening on the schedule.
