The Overstory by Richard Powers
"On the surface, this is the story of nine people who come to understand that we are intricately connected to the natural world, but that's like saying King Lear is about a father/daughter relationship. Few books momumentally shift the plates upon which our world view sits... What kind of bookseller would I be if I didn't make sure all of you read this?" - Linda

Internment by Samira Ahmed
"In this horrific near future, seventeen-year-old Layla Amin, her parents, and all Muslims have been placed in an internment camp. Resistance is certainly dangerous, possibly futile, and those inside wrestle with the right course of action. A powerful reminder of the human cost of silence in the face of unchecked power." - Linda

Reading & Signing with Alex Espinoza
Thursday, June 6 at 6 pm

Join us in welcoming Alex Espinoza for the release of his newest title, Cruising: An Intimate History of a Radical Pastime. Plus, he's a newly-local author as a staff member of UCR this fall!

Espinoza takes readers on an uncensored journey through the underground, to reveal the timeless art of cruising. Combining historical research and oral history with his own personal experience, he examines the political and cultural forces behind this radical pastime.

Storytime with Isabel Quintero
Saturday, June 8 at 11 am

Local author Isabel Quintero is returning to Cellar Door as a special guest storytime reader for her new picture book, My Papi Has a Motorcycle

"This beautifully illustrated celebration of all that makes father/daughter relationships powerful also incorporates a vision of our neighborhoods that includes many who do not often see their world reflected in the pages of books" (Linda). A perfect pick in time for Father's Day!

Father's Day Poetry Reading with Rachelle and Romeo Cruz
Sunday, June 16 at 1 pm

You know this will be fun, enlightening, and heartwarming, so join us for the love of the father-daughter relationship... and poetry. :)
