JUNE 16: The annual Northwest Mission District picnic will take place on Trinity Sunday, June 16 at 1pm in Idlewild Park in Reno. Trinity Cathedral will supply and cook the hamburgers and hot dogs. Attendees are asked to bring side dishes of picnic food and salads, and desserts. If you have particular beverages you want, please bring them for yourselves. Our parish is also asked to bring hot dog and hamburger rolls, bottled water, and paper products and plastic ware.
AUGUST 16-18: St. Catherine's Fun Day/Weekend at Camp Galilee.
Come for the day on Saturday, Aug.17, or spend the night: details to follow.

Flowers can be donated in the name of someone special for a birthday or anniversary, in memory of someone who's passed on, or to the
Glory to God.
On the bulletin board by the coffee pot is a sign-up sheet where you can choose an open date.
The cost is $35.
A check for the cost can be dropped into the collection plate any Sunday with "Flowers" in the memo line.

ST. CATHERINE'S QUILTERS GROUP
|
|
A group from St. Catherine's meets to talk and make lap quilts, which we then donate to Manor Care, or to someone from St. Catherine's who might need a bit of TLC.
We always welcome anyone who might be interested in learning to make a quilt, or just to be a part of this ministry. No sewing experience is needed, just a pair of willing hands!
Our next meeting will be
10 a.m. to noon Thursday, June 20.
We will be taking July and August off but will resume in September at a date to be announced later.

Rev. Peter's Message
Happy Easter, friends! We have continued our journey with Jesus for the first forty days of Easter, to his Ascension on May 30 (which we will observe on June 2), and our Easter Season will conclude with the Feast of Pentecost, on June 9, the fiftieth day, with the coming of the Holy Spirit on the birthday of the church. On that day, we will also celebrate the Baptism of Randy Pitts at the 9am service, and get together between the services with a potluck brunch and some cake to celebrate.
After Trinity Sunday on June 16, the long season of Ordinary Time begins. Ordinary Time switches our focus from the events of the life of Jesus to the events of our lives today, as we live out the lessons of Incarnation, Resurrection and the Coming of the Holy Spirit. The term
"ordinary," in this case, comes from the same root as the word ordinal, which means counting. It's called "ordinary" because each Sunday is counted as a Sunday after Pentecost. The seasonal color changes to green, appropriate for a season of personal and collective growth.
Our summer schedule will begin on June 23, with slightly less formal services but no decrease in our commitment to Sunday fellowship! We will continue both the 9am and 11am services, but we will omit one reading each Sunday, sing a short Gloria, use the 9am Gather creed and confession at both services, and say the Psalm responsively, instead of using a sung response.
My last Sunday with you will be Pentecost, as I begin an extended time with my children and grandchildren. I expect to be back in Northern Nevada full time by November 1. The Reverend Tom Blake, known to us from his prior work with us, will be with us to preach and preside for the rest of June and July.
I am grateful to the people of St. Catherine's for the opportunity to walk with you as your Associate Priest during the seasons of Lent and Easter, as we work together to prepare to call and welcome a new priest to lead us. You have provided enormous support to me and my family as we continue our grieving process. You have also patiently and lovingly taught me so much about how to be a priest in this very special place.

Vestry Corner

St. Catherine's Vestry continues to work towards finding a new Priest for our Parish. On Sunday May 19, Canon Catherine+ met with parish members between services to update the congregation on how our search for a Priest in Charge Under Special Circumstances will be undertaken. We had approximately 40 parishioners at the meeting and Canon Catherine+ was able to answer a number of questions from parishioners about the process.
As discussed at the meeting, we hope to have our new Priest on board by the fall. If the process stretches past late fall, we would probably call an interim priest for a period of time while we continue our search.
As bringing in a new Priest will be up to the Vestry in consultation with the Diocese, I would encourage you to bring any comments or suggestions on what you would like to see in our next priest to our Vestry members.
While we won't have permanent Priest for a period of time, St. Catherine's continues with their regular services and our Ministries and activities remain a focus for our Parish. We are working on updating our mission in serving the community of south Reno and we will be holding a Parish meeting during the summer with a facilitator from the Civic Academy to help us decide where we might place additional efforts to help our local community.
The Vestry continues to count on the support of the congregation to keep our ministries and services strong during this transition period.
We are a strong body of Christ.

Eucharistic Ministers and Visitors
On June 1, we held a training session at St. Catherine's for new Eucharistic Ministers and Visitors. These new volunteers will allow us to increase the number of parishioners who can receive communion on Sundays. If you missed this training, there will be another training in mid-September at Trinity Cathedral. Further details will be made available later in the summer.

All Parishes Picnic is June 16 at Idlewild
Our Annual Northwest Mission District Picnic, when all the local Episcopal parishes get together, is set for
Trinity Sunday: June 16, at 1 p.m. in Idlewild Park.
Please bring: picnic side dishes, desserts, paper products, beverages, condiments, or hot dog & hamburger buns. The folks at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral will supply the burgers, hot dogs, and have volunteer chefs to work the grills.
This is a great way to get to know other Episcopalians in the area; see you there!

All are welcome in 'Catherine's Corner'

Our book club is called "Catherine's Corner." Please join us! We meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month at Noon (bring a sack lunch), and on the 4th Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm.
Drop by any of our meetings - you are welcome whether you've read the book or not, for fellowship.
Our current selection is "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis, and our meetings this month are:
June 13 at noon; and
June 27 at 5:30 p.m.

Nature hike with St. Catherine's, June 22

Please join us for a St. Catherine's June walk on Saturday, June 22.
This is a chance to see some of the local countryside and get some exercise with St. Catherine's. Mid June weather might be a little warm, so we will look to do a walk that includes a shady pathway.
We will meet at the Starbucks adjacent to the Raley's on Mt. Rose Highway (18250 Wedge Parkway) at 9:00 a.m. We will probably walk 2-3 miles, but it will depend on who joins us and how far they want to walk. All are welcome (including any 4-pawed friends that you want to bring).
Please remember to bring water or something else to drink. We hope to see you on Saturday, June 22.

"Baby Bundles" is composed of and supported by members of St. Catherine's and Trinity Episcopal Churches.
With items donated by both congregations, volunteers assemble "Bundles" of layette items for St. Mary's and Renown hospitals. They are then distributed by hospital staff to disadvantaged new parents who have little or nothing for their newborn.
This month we'd like to acknowledge Ann Towner for her generosity.
Any help with the following items would be greatly appreciated:

Automatic bill pay for your pledge
Some St. Catherine's members have found it very convenient to use their bank's "bill pay" service to handle their pledge to the church. You can instruct your bank to have a check of a certain amount generated on a certain date, which will then show up automatically each month at the church's P. O. box. If you're interested in setting this up to save yourself the step of writing checks for your pledge, please talk to your bank or financial institution to find out the details.
