A Thought to Carry with You
"The life of 'peace' is both an inner journey toward a disarmed heart and a public journey toward a disarmed world," writes American Catholic priest, pacifist, and author John Dear, several times a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize. "This difficult but beautiful journey gives infinite meaning and fulfillment to life itself because our lives become a gift for the whole human race. With peace as the beginning, middle, and end of life, life makes sense."
We might add that lives devoted to peacemaking also become a gift for all beings, for Earth herself, and perhaps even for the cosmos in ways we do not yet fully understand.
This month -- and onward for all our days -- may our hearts tune into the frequency of peace, which is ever present but often unheeded, and may our lives reflect that peace in ever more refined, sensitive, and courageous ways.
