UPCOMING EVENTS
Sunday, May 6
EASTERTIDE VESPERS
: On Sunday afternoon, May 6 at 5 PM we will once again welcome the Abbot, Prior, and monks of St. Louis Abbey to The Church of St. Michael & St. George as they lead us in worship and sing Eastertide Vespers. This liturgy is a part of our rich ongoing ecumenical relationship with the Abbey and one of the opportunities we have each season to worship with the monks. Please plan to join us and experience the beauty of the ancient monastic office sung as it has been for over a thousand years. A festive reception to honor The Right Reverend Thomas Frerking, Abbot, will follow as we celebrate our deep friendship with the Abbot and monks and mark Abbot Thomas’ retirement.
Tuesday, May 8
STEAK & STORIES:
Speaker, Daniel Smith, Assistant Professor of New Testament at Saint Louis University, will talk about the topic: “From Jonah to Jesus to Our Sisters in Mosul: The Middle East Now and the World of the Bible Then.”
What do Jonah, Jesus, and a group of Iraqi nuns have in common? Come learn about the world of the Bible, the contemporary Middle East, and how you can help our brothers and sisters in Christ recover from the ravages of ISIS. Daniel will share what he has learned from his scholarship on and travels in the eastern Mediterranean world. He will be joining us the week after he takes part in a conference in Jerusalem on the 70th anniversary of the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Plan to join us on Tuesday, May 8 from 6-8 PM in the Great Hall.
