CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to Mrs. Theresa Hartey who has been awarded the "2018  Teacher as Hero" award. The National Liberty Museum puts its mission into practice by honoring people of all ages and backgrounds who make a difference in the lives of others.  Mrs. Hartey receives this award because she is one of the outstanding educators in the Delaware Valley. She will receive her award on Saturday, May 5.
GOOD CITIZEN AWARD 

Congratulations to Tess White and Erin White for receiving the Good Citizen Award through the Youth Work Foundation. Tess and Erin will attend workshops and discussions on the responsibilities of citizenship and will explore the different branches of government at City Hall. They will receive their awards at the Union League. 

SACRAMENTAL CONGRATULATIONS

Gianni Rodriguez-Caceres received the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation on Thursday April 26 at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Abington. Congratulations Gianni in receiving the grace that will nourish and strengthen your Catholic faith. SBA is so proud!

FAREWELL AND GOOD LUCK 

On Friday, April 27, we wished Development Director, Samantha Angelone , best of luck in her new development position at Villa Victoria Academy. Samantha has served the SBA community so well these past three years. She will be missed! HISTORY CLUB FIELD TRIP

The History Club Spring Trip students were engaged in learning history
through science at the Franklin Institute. In the afternoon they then explored the history of Eastern State Penitentiary were they saw Al Capone's cell.   
PAWCTION GALA

The Pawction Gala was a wonderful evening uniting the Saint Basil Academy community including members of the Board of Advisors, administration, alumnae, faculty and parents.  Our thanks to those who attended, assisted, sponsored and supported the event.  
                             
We congratulate our 2018 Pillars of Success: Sister Carla Hernández, OSBM '53 and Frances Melko Boccella '67.  We also congratulate Doctor Maria Sicat-Fagel as the recipient of the Mother Josaphat Service Award.

TRANSFORMATION SCHOLARS

SBA students Grace Comas, Emily DeMarshall, and Bridget McShane were honored as this year's Transformation Scholars at a ceremony on La Salle University's campus. As Transformation Scholars, they will be taking college courses through La Salle next school year.  Congratulations Girls!

READING OLYMPICS

The Basil Bookworms competed in the MCIU Reading Olympics on Wednesday, April 25 and did an awesome job.  They earned a Blue Ribbon, which is the highest ribbon awarded.

Track & Field:
Congratulations to 
Cianni Harris, Ciana Kensey, Sophia Mahoney,
Sasha Lee, Rah-Dirah Baker Lane, Taylor Thomas and Tia Taylor who competed in the Penn Relays for SBA this year!   Tia Taylor qualified for the Championship of America in the  long jump. She is one of only 15 girls across America and the first in Basil history to do so.

Team.

SBA SPRING CONCERT  

Congratulations to the Music Department and their terrific performances at the annual SBA Spring Concert this past Wednesday! Concert Choir, Madrigals, Band, String Ensemble, Handbells and the Vocal Technique Class performed like pros!!  Thank you to Sister Germaine, Mr. Schmauk, Mrs. Bates, Ms. Violi, Mrs. Yurchakevych, Mrs Pennkalskyj and Mr. Meany for their direction. 


PROM

SBA Seniors and Juniors danced the night away at the Prom last Friday night.  Thank you to all who coordinated and assisted in making the night memorable for our students.
          
ROSARIES FOR SAINT DAVID'S PARISH

On April 25 and 26, all freshmen and sophomores of SBA learned how to make rosaries, which were made for the use of Saint David's parish.  The rosaries are distributed to the parishioners of Saint David's parish and to the homeless.

Celebrating College Decision Day with the Class of 2018! We wish you the best of luck and we look forward to what the future holds for each of you!

 



HONORS CONVOCATION

The Annual Academic Convocation, held on Wednesday, May 2, honored SBA students who have been on the Principal's List from the fourth quarter of last year through this past quarter.  The students' academic achievements were celebrated by a short musical program and the ceremonial awarding of Basilian pins.  We welcomed guest speaker 2003 alumna Katina Sawyer, Ph.D, who encouraged the students with great enthusiasm to find their path in life by examining their own values and staying true to pursuing what they do well, enjoy, and wish to accomplish in life. The Academic ceremony was followed by a reception and the opportunity to view the Annual SBA Art Show, filled with beautiful and skillful pieces in various media from students in all four years of art study at the Academy.

ROMAN DAY

The Latin 
students of SBA celebrated their yearly Roman Day festivities. The students, bedecked in their togas and wreathes, recited their Latin prayers, sang their chants, and distributed delicious homemade "Roman/Italian" food to the school community.  A great time was had by all!  Carpe Diem!
