Literacy Night April 30th

Garden Bonanza Night May 23rd

Dear Gompers Families,

Our third quarter of school ended on April 5. Our fourth quarter kicked off with an assembly as we prepare to finish the school year strong.  We are excited for the learning that will take place during the next nine weeks!

We will have Parent-Teacher Conferences on April 11 in the afternoon and evening. We hope you take the opportunity to celebrate your child's accomplishments thus far this school year.
Come ready to share with your child teacher any concern or question about his/her education.

For students who qualified for summer school, staff will be able to help you sign up.
Again, we will be serving lunch that day, so if your child eats a cold lunch at school, please send one with your child so they can eat with their peers. If you have not registered your 4K or Kindergarten student for next year you can do that at Parent Teacher Conferences in the hall by the office. Please bring proof of address, immunization records and the birth certificate.

Our next GEPTO (Gompers Elementary Parent Teacher Organization) is Tuesday, April 9. The meeting will run from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

I am grateful for your collaboration and that you share your children with us each day.
Please reach out if you have any questions and I look forward to seeing you all next week at parent/teacher conferences.

Kindly,
Jackie Smith
Principal

VISITOR INFORMATION
MESSAGE FROM OUR CROSSING GUARDS

Safety Notes
Thank you students, faculty and families! Students crossing the streets to
and from school  do a great job at remembering to stop at the red line on the sidewa lk. They wait for the Crossing Guard to stop traffic, give the "all clear" and then cross the street.  Thank you also to the parents and staff who remember to do this. You are being great role models of s afety for your child or children.

Drivers are reminded that state law requires all vehicles to come a complete stop at least 10 feet from the crosswalk when a Crossing Guard is entering or is in the crosswalk. The vehicle should remain completely stopped until all pedestrians, including the Crossing Guard,
are safely back on the curb.  Thank you for your help in keeping everyone safe!

GEPTO NEWS
News from Gompers Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (GEPTO) Family

Update on Recent Fundraisers
Thank you for supporting two recent fundraisers! Gompers Night @ Culvers was very successful, and Gompers families filled the restaurant and drive-thru. The Election Day Bake Sale generated a little over $640, and we appreciate the donations of cookies, bars, doughnuts, brownies, cupcakes and doggie treats from the Gompers community!

April Meeting and Board Elections
The April GEPTO meeting is Tuesday, April 9, from 6:00 -7:00 p.m. in the Gompers school library. At this meeting, we will have elections for the 2019-20 GEPTO Board, and we would love for you to join us! Being on the board doesn't have to be a significant time commitment, and we welcome everyone's talents and resources. If you have any questions, please contact GEPTO President Amanda Kruse at  amanda@gomperspto.org

Back By Popular Demand: Buy-It-Now Table
The Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences are Thursday, April 11, and you'll have the opportunity to purchase classroom items at the Buy-It-Now Table. As the fourth quarter begins, many classrooms are running low on snacks, tissues, hand sanitizer and supplies. GEPTO will stock a table with teacher requests that you can purchase on-the-spot.

Upcoming Staff Appreciation Events
Tuesday, April 24 is Administrative Professionals' Day and we appreciate our school secretary, Jessi Booker. Whether she's working with visitors, parents or students, Jessi is friendly, calm, and patient. We are also grateful for Angie Contreras who serves as our school's bilingual resource specialist. Angie is based in the school office but works throughout Gompers as the liaison for Spanish-speaking families. GEPTO will purchase gifts for Jessi and Angie to show our gratitude for all that they do for our school community.
We will honor the Gompers teachers and staff with meals and snacks during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6-10). In the coming weeks, look for a flyer in backpack mail with more details.
