Advance Manufacturing Center-Baltimore
From the Director | Smart Growth America
Looks at Baltimore

The City of Baltimore is one of six cities selected to receive technical assistance from Smart Growth America’s Small-Scale Manufacturing and Place-Based Economic Development program, a project in partnership with Recast City. The Project has engaged Made in Baltimore and the Mid-Atlantic MBDA Advanced Manufacturing Center along with a wide range of stakeholders to develop visions for small scale manufacturing in three target areas: Carroll-Camden, Highlandtown and the Jones Falls Valley. From June 4 th to June 6 th the project will engage in a three day community assessment that will include in-depth interviews with small-scale manufacturers, property owners and civic leaders.

Small-scale manufacturing gives residents the opportunity to access high paying jobs and economic opportunity in the neighborhoods they call home. The growing sector is filling vacant storefronts, adding diversity to existing businesses, and contributing to a greater sense of place.

It is important that the clients and stakeholders of the Center engage in this discussion and have your voices heard. If you would like to participate in the interviews or host a site visit please give me a call. The opening session will occur on Tuesday June 4 at 9:30 a.m. at the Impact Hub. I encourage you to register for this event at https://spacetomake.eventbrite.com For more information call our office at 443-401-0242.
