House Committee Votes $260 Million for SEL
The House Appropriations Committee has voted to support an unprecedented $260 million for SEL as part of the 2020 education funding bill. The funds would support research, teacher professional development, mental health professionals in schools, and community schools. More here .
Register Now for 2019 SEL Exchange

Arkansas Adopts New SEL Guidelines
The Arkansas Dept. of Education has adopted guidelines designed to give K-12 students a plan they can follow to achieve personal success. The guidelines include five components that closely parallel CASEL's five SEL competencies. Learn more
Congressional Briefing on Whole Child Approaches
Several leading educational organizations, including Committee for Children and CASEL, co-hosted a congressional briefing on whole child approaches to education on Wed., May 22. Topics included federal policy levers such as funding through the Higher Education Act, the Every Student Succeeds Act, and other programs that can be used at the state and local level to invest in whole child approaches to learning. LPI: Guidance on Teacher Prep for SEL, Whole Child
Two new publications point to practical solutions for challenges facing the field. Preparing Teachers to Support Social and Emotional Learning , from the Learning Policy Institute, offers case studies of efforts by San Jose State University and Lakewood Elementary School. In an article for Greater Good Magazine, Lisa Flook writes how LPI distilled the “whole child” research into four pillars of school success: positive school climate, productive instructional strategies, social-emotional development, and individualized supports.
