Baltimore City Department of Public Works (MD)
The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is responsible for drinking water, removal and treatment of wastewater as well as the management of surface waste and maintaining the cleanliness of the city for residents, businesses and over 15 million visitors annually. Baltimore City DPW supports the health, environment, and economy of the City of Baltimore and the region by providing customers with safe drinking water and keeping neighborhoods and waterways clean. Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison (WI)
The Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies is confronting the challenge of how to meet humanity's needs-in just and innovative ways -while protecting the environment. The Institute employs imaginative research that transcends disciplinary boundaries; through hands-on educational initiatives that bridge classrooms and communities; and through public programs that foster environmental conversations among people from business, government, academia and advocacy. The Nelson Institute is home to four interdisciplinary research centers that serve as laboratories and incubators for solutions to the world's most critical environmental challenges including the Center for Climatic Research, the Center for Culture, the History and Environment Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment, and the Land Tenure Center.  Read about the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies here
 

City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities (VA)

The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities (DPU) operates five utilities: natural gas, water, wastewater, stormwater, and electric street lighting. DPU serves more than 500,000 residential and commercial customers in the Richmond and surrounding metropolitan region. DPU maintains a combined sewer system (CSS) in the central part of the city, which carries stormwater and wastewater to the wastewater treatment plant prior to discharging it into the river. The Stormwater Utility also enhances public safety and health and protects property by improving the quality and decreasing the quantity of polluted stormwater runoff.  I Read about the City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities here
Organizations Across the Country Advocate for Investment and Repair During Infrastructure Week 2019

From May 13-20, Infrastructure Week took place across the United States with events, trainings, tours,  interviews, webinars, and a unified message that the federal government needs to step up and  help #BuildForTomorrow. Starting Now. With a bipartisan steering committee that included the Value of Water Campaign, affiliated organizations across the country helped advocate for necessary national infrastructure investment.

During the week, US Water Alliance and Value of Water staff attended kickoff events in Washington, DC, Lansing, MI, and Houston, TX. As part of the Southeast Summit, Alliance CEO Radhika Fox joined an aerial helicopter tour of Houston to survey water infrastructure, including the Lake Houston Dam. Fox also penned an op-ed in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution with Adie Tomer of the Brookings Institution's Metropolitan Policy Program that focused on the economic benefits of building infrastructure.

Across the country, Value of Water supporters that participated included AlexRenew, American Water, Atlanta Department of Watershed Management, Buffalo Sewer Authority, Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, Hampton Roads Sanitation District, KC Water, LA Sanitation, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, Philadelphia Water Department, Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority, and Tucson Water. Value of Water Hosts "The Future is Now: Smart Water Infrastructure Panel"

As part of Infrastructure Week, the Value of Water Campaign in partnership with the National League of Cities (NLC) and the National Association of Counties (NACo) hosted "The Future is Now," a panel on smart water infrastructure. Discussing the potential of deploying smart water solutions for current infrastructure challenges was a panel featuring Albert Cho, (Xylem Inc.) Kyle Dreyfuss-Wells, (NEORSD), Ted Henifin (HRSD), and Andrew Sawyers (US EPA). I Watch the video here

Alliance CEO Radhika Fox Talks Water Infrastructure and More on "Water Values Podcast"

Alliance CEO Radhika Fox was interviewed on Dave McGimpsey's "Water Values Podcast." The extended interview covered the origins of the US Water Alliance, Value of Water Campaign, work toward  infrastructure investment and education, and Fox's perspective on local leadership on infrastructure investment.  Listen to the podcast here

US Water Alliance's Water Equity Taskforce Meets for Fourth Learning Exchange in Buffalo, NY

The US Water Alliance's Water Equity Taskforce met May 21-23 for their fourth Learning Exchange in Buffalo, NY. The six cities-Atlanta, Buffalo, Camden, Cleveland, Louisville, and Milwaukee-welcomed Pittsburgh to the Taskforce. The Learning Exchange kicked off with a tour of Buffalo Water's historic pump station and a community garden run by PUSH Buffalo. Each team shared up dates on the water equity initiatives they have developed over the past year, including a rate affordability program in Buffalo, a workforce opportunity analysis in Milwaukee, climate data gathering in Camden, and more. The teams also participated in sessions on navigating difficult conver sations in cross-sector partnerships and creating opportunities for equitable community engagement.
Webinar Recap:  Spotlighting Innovation in Water Utilities

On May 29th, the Alliance hosted the webinar, " One Water in the States." The webinar spotlighted the State Policymakers Toolkit, which was recently released by the US Water Alliance and the Council of State Governments The panel, which included representatives from CSG, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, and New Jersey Future, also discussed changes in state governments following the 2018 midterm elections and success stories from One Water leaders working to engage state policymakers.  Listen to the recording here
