Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance
presents

Navigating Organizational Transitions

A Special Conversation with
Susan Houghton & Elaine Taylor

Bankhead Theater
Livermore, CA

Thursday, June 13, 2019
10 am - 12:00 pm

Open to the Community -- No Cost to Attend!

Join us for a very special conversation with a dynamic duo of speakers featuring nonprofit organization founders Elaine Taylor of The Taylor Family Foundation & Susan Houghton of Sunflower Hill. They will be discussing their own stories of creating a path to future success for each of their organizations long after they pass along the baton of leadership.

Starting a successful nonprofit is one of the greatest challenges a founder can face. Finding the right future leaders to continue the mission, along with transitioning them into their roles at the right time, can be equally as difficult.

The nonprofit journey involves many phases as it moves away from its origins towards becoming a mature organization. Successful nonprofit organizations share common challenges as they grow from their “start-up” days—forming early boards, creating programs and services, and establishing their footing—to becoming fully-functioning, longterm organizations working towards realizing their vision and achieving their mission.

There is no cost to attend this event.

We encourage you to preregister to aid TVNPA in planning for the event.
Walk-in registration is also welcomed! Join us!

About our Speakers:

Susan Houghton's career spans 30 years in public affairs, government relations, corporate and crisis communications, educational communications and philanthropy. A Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), she has worked for the University of California at Berkeley; Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory; Safeway; and Pacific Gas and Electric Company, among others. She has been on the founding board of directors of five non-profit organizations, including three devoted to autism and special needs: Sunflower Hill, Exceptional Needs Network and Kern Autism Network.

Additionally, as a founding board member of the Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance, Susan has made significant contributions to our organization since its inception. At TVNPA's outset, Susan joined the initial leadership team that grew to form the organization’s founding board of directors and she has played a strong part in shaping the successful organization TVNPA has become today. Susan earned a BS in Journalism from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo and a MS in Nonprofit Administration from Louisiana State University.

Elaine Taylor is the Co-Founder and President of the The Taylor Family Foundation. A true philanthropist, she has a been a candy striper, cared for children in the playroom at hospitals, helped to fundraise, sat on boards, and served as a committee member for various charities. As a community leader, Elaine has been an advocate and educator for Pediatric AIDS to several community groups.

Elaine has received numerous honors, including the Unsung Heroes of Compassion presented by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, an honor given only to 50 individuals. Other awards include: the 2015 Steven J. Rivera Threads of Hope Visionary Award; the 2014 East Bay Leadership Council’s Lifetime Achievement Award; the 2009 Jefferson Award for Public Volunteerism; the 2007 Gilda Radner Philanthropic Award; the Soroptimist International of Diablo Valley “Women of Distinction” Award, among many other service awards, distinctions and honors bestowed upon her throughout the San Francisco Bay Area region. In 2007, Elaine was named to the Alameda County Women’s Hall of Fame.
