Time to plan your next small group retreat or church-wide function? We created the Pastor's Open House specifically to introduce our beautiful property to pastoral and ministry staff and to help answer some common questions about retreat planning. It’s a big deal, for us and for the churches we serve. So we want to make it worth the trip for area churches by giving away some GREAT PRIZES ! The event is FREE, but your registration will help us prepare plenty of Carolina BBQ to go around. LEARN MORE!
In response to the unrest in Baltimore in 2015, our own Steve Fitzhugh, board president for Covenant Village and former NFL Defensive Back for the Denver Broncos partnered with the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins to bring urban ninth grade boys and local police officers out of the city for a power-packed Leadership Retreat weekend. Fitzhugh’s program impacts 150 at-risk youth annually.
2018 marks his third Baltimore Summit and second Washington, DC Summit at Covenant Village. The program matches high school students with metropolitan police officers to build relationships – around the campfire, along the hiking trail, and on the basketball court – that instill dignity and respect. The teens have a chance to tour an NFL training facility and lunch with their heroes before traveling west to Covenant Village on the NFL team bus. During the weekend, they work and compete alongside healthy mentors who are invested in their lives.

“We’re sowing seeds of change, one teen at a time,” says Fitzhugh, who has plans to make this a replicable model for NFL clubs nationwide. “In the early years, we’re focused on personal development and justice so that by the time they graduate, these young men will have the tools to make an impact in their communities and to mentor other young men.”

Fitzhugh has been a national advocate for youth and a figurehead for anti-tobacco, anti-drug, and seat belt safety campaigns as well as a leader in the social justice movement among underserved communities. Covenant Village is home to the Summit. READ ALL ABOUT IT!

Thanks, Shady Grove Presbyterian for donating the funds to build a GaGa Ball Pit on the mountain last fall! The church’s Vacation Bible School raised the funds during their summer 2017 session. So when some of their folks came to help us build it, it was only fair to let the pastor and youth pastor square off
for the first game. SEE ALL OUR ACTIVITIES at Covenant Village!
Our fabulous 18-hole disc golf course is getting rave reviews! At just $5 per person for all day play, this challenging course might be the best bargain attraction in the region! Drastic elevation changes and plenty of downhill bombers.

SUMMER INTERNSHIPS AT COVENANT VILLAGE
Three student interns from Allegany College’s Forestry program will join the ranks of Covenant Village staff for the summer months. One vital undertaking for the interns will be to take inventory of the sugar maples on property in preparation for a potential maple syrup production enterprise. Sweet!
Board, staff, and volunteers have been busy over the winter months, readying the Farmhouse and increasing its capacity in preparation for the summer season. Leigh Squier, Juls Wood, and Bob Wise remodeled the first floor bedroom, refinishing floors and walls, and installing brand new bunks to accommodate a total of 20 campers.

We are forever grateful for the astonishing gift left to us by Marion Johnson. In December, our board was alerted that Marion had bequeathed $29,250 to Covenant Village Retreat! She and her husband Admiral Johnny Johnson were long-time friends of Rev. Dick Halverson in California, and later Arnie & Carolyn Ensfield. The couple attended Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda.

God knew this gift was coming, just at the moment we needed it! He has done all things well and provided for the camp even before we asked. Thank you, Marion, for storing up treasure in heaven. All thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
