Congratulations to the
St. Josaphat School Class of 2019
who will be graduating on Sunday after the Noon Mass! Please keep them in your prayers as they move on to high school in the fall. They've shared with us where they will be attending high school, as well as their career aspirations.

Our 8th Graders were confirmed by Bishop Bartosic on March 20.  During their graduation retreat, they had some time to reflect on their confirmation.

Which of the gifts of the Holy Spirit do you think you need the most at this point in your life? Wisdom, Understanding, Right Judgment, Knowledge, Courage, Reverence, and/or Wonder and Awe?

I need Right Judgment to help me find good friends and make the right decisions in class and outside of school next year.   Gemma Cascarano

Courage is what I believe I need most - to move on to high school and to leave St. Josaphat.  John Ceravolo

I need right judgement and knowledge. I'm going into high school and I will need help making difficult decisions.  Since high school will be more academically challenging, I will need the Holy Spirit to guide me through.  Olyvia Flanders

I need understanding because at times I wonder why certain things happen to innocent people.  Holden Seuring

Were you surprised by anything you learned about yourself or your faith during the preparation process?

I learned how prayer can impact my life. Sean Anderson

I was surprised at how strong our faith was inside of me. Colin Corum

I learned that God is always with me and that I shouldn't be scared. He will be with me through the darkest times until I die. Aidan Gibbs

I was surprised how much prayer can impact your life. Since confirmation, I pray more and I feel like my relationship with God has grown. Hailey Luick

I was surprised how simple it was to choose my saint because there was an instant connection. Beau Ryan

Throughout the process of confirmation preparation, I was able to truly see how my faith touches every aspect of my life. I learned about how faith lives in my home, school, and especially myself. Anabella van Kempen

What is your confirmation/saint name, and why did you choose that saint? What trait of that saint do you hope to imitate?

I chose St. Andrew because he was very close to Jesus, like I hope to be.  Nathan  Affolter

I hope to imitate St. Clare's trait of devoted prayer with God. St. Clare lived a very simple life full of prayer with God. In her prayers, she kept in mind people she was praying for, things she would like to ask God for help and forgiveness with, for God's guidance in her everyday life, and much more. I look up to this trait because it will help me find guidance within my prayers and conversations with God.  Grace Collins

I liked how Juan Diego performed selfless acts to help his uncle. I would like to be selfless. Danny  De La Torre

I chose Pope Gregorios because he was a good influence, and he was a good person who helped many people.  I hope to imitate his self confidence. Luka Dzakovic

I chose St. Helen for multiple reasons. In 4th grade, I chose her as my All Saints' Day Saint, and still have my costume and essay from that very memorable project. That project really sparked my interest for St. Helen when I learned she was said to have found the cross that Jesus died on. I love to discover new things, whether it is with technology or learning in school. Lastly, the name Helen was my mother's grandmother's name. She played a very important role in her life, and I feel that St. Helen can play an important role in my confirmation too. I hope to imitate St. Helen's love for discovery. Maddie French

I chose St. Elizabeth of Hungary because she helped others, and I hope to imitate that Breanna Gonzalez

Like St. Peter, I want to be the "rock" on which someone builds something.  Charley Grant

I hope to imitate St. Patrick's selflessness. Jack Hoste

I chose St. Clare because when my mom was getting confirmed she also chose St. Clare and my mom has always been someone I look up to. St. Clare was always helping others and I hope that I can help others like she did. Ella Meyer

I chose St. Margaret of Scotland because she was a kind leader who took care of the poor and showed kindness to everyone in her kingdom. This kindness and service to the poor is what I hope to imitate.Natalie Milkie

Saint Rebekah is the patron saint of physicists, and I chose her because I'm interested in physics and astronomy. Also, she was very kind to people and was always helping others. Cameron Pukala

I chose St. Joseph because he was an amazing father and I want to be like that one day.  Gregg  Rzepczynski

I chose Maximillian Kolbe because he was very selfless, and he gave up his life to save another's. I want to be selfless and be generous to those around me. Ethan Turek

Why did you choose to be confirmed in the Catholic faith?

I chose to be confirmed so that I could grow stronger in my faith and become an adult in the eyes of the church.  John Astorina

To grow in my connection with God and to live out my faith. Jake Baskin

Because I wanted to become an adult of the Catholic faith. Colin DeJesus

I chose to be confirmed to become closer to God. Irene Drapszo

So my relationship with God would become stronger and I would become closer to Him. Logan Holland

I wanted to be a part of a great community with a great and true belief. Ty Koran

I wanted to be confirmed because I wanted to live out my faith to the fullest.  Sam Kulisek

I chose to be confirmed because I wanted to have a closer relationship with God.  Sophie Meyer

I chose to be confirmed in the Catholic faith because it has been a prominent part of my life before I could walk or speak. Ever since I was little, I went to church almost every week, and prayed before meals. Getting Confirmed was my next step in my faith, so I wanted to get confirmed. Lucy Miller

I wanted to grow closer to God. Simon Svoboda

Because I believe in the ideals of the Catholic faith. Max Vesprini

I choose to be confirmed because Roman Catholicism has most of my views, I've grown up in it and it raises others to be nice. Declan Worrell
