Our Summer Recommendations--Including Books on Our "Want to Read" Lists
It's just a few more weeks until the official start of summer, which means it's time to get your summer reading queued up! We recently asked library staff to give us some book ideas. We asked for a recommendation AND a book that they're looking forward to reading (or listening to) this summer. It's a great list! Be sure to check it out here. You can add holds for up to 15 print items and 15 digital items, so now is the time to build your own stack of books to read and listen to this summer!
Summertime = Library Fun Time!
Summer also means it's almost time for our annual Summer Reading Program! This year's theme is A Universe of Stories, and there's something for all ages and interests, including fun trivia, great programs, free books, awesome prizes, and more. Keep an eye out for your June/July events guide, or head over to our online calendar now to browse through all the amazing things happening this summer! All library programs are ALWAYS free, but some require advance registration due to space limitations, so be sure to check out the calendar (programs that require advance registration include a red asterisk).
Fuel Your Wanderlust with These Programs
As the weather warms up, many people begin planning for their upcoming summer adventures. If you're looking for inspiration, or just want to go along for the ride, be sure to check out these upcoming programs. Then lace up your boots and get ready to hit the trail!

Grantmakers Panel for Nonprofits
Do you work for a nonprofit, or are you interested in starting your own? Be sure to join us on June 4 at the Downtown Bend Library when funders discuss their grants for nonprofits. Deschutes Public Library, in partnership with the Nonprofit Assoc. of Oregon, hosts this Grantmakers Panel, which is a great opportunity to get an inside look at some of our local foundations--including The Oregon Community Foundation and Meyer Memorial Trust--and their grant processes. Space is limited and registration is required; register early to secure your spot.
Introducing Our First Writer in Residence
We're excited to host author Christopher Boucher for three programs in June, including a day as a Writer in Residence! Writers can make appointments for one-on-one coaching with Boucher during his in-library office hours on June 17. Register here, then follow the instructions to reserve your time slot. In addition, Boucher will host a writing workshop on June 16 (registration required), as well as do a reading from his third novel, "Big Giant Floating Head." Boucher serves as part of the OSU-Cascades Low Residency Creative Writing MFA faculty.
Print. Digital. Audio. Read Any Way You Like!
