Government Relations Capitol Report
CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN CONVENTION IN SAN DIEGO
At the California Democratic Convention in March, no gubernatorial candidate earned the party's endorsement. This prohibits the Democratic Party from spending money on the race for governor at least until after the June primary.
Many Democrats will now be closely watching the San Diego California Republican convention this weekend in San Diego. This is because leading Republican gubernatorial candidates John Cox and Travis Allen are both pushing for the party endorsement. If the Republican Party endorses either one, this could catapult that candidate to the No. 2 spot behind Democrat Gavin Newsom. They would then face off in the general election in November.
Republicans are eager to have one of their own in the gubernatorial race so that Republican voters will have a reason to come out to vote in November. If Republicans stay home, down ticket GOP candidates, notably those challenged in congressional and state legislative races by an energized Democratic Party, could be in jeopardy.
Democrats and Republicans alike know that what happens this weekend in San Diego doesn't stay in San Diego.

Just the Facts - Immigrants in California
Most
immigrants (58 percent) arriving in California between 2012 and 2016 came from Asia, while only 28 percent came from Latin America, according to a new report from the Public Policy Institute of California. The report looks at the immigrant population in the state and how it has changed in the past few decades. For instance,
in the 1990s, California's immigrant population grew by 37 percent (2.4 million), and in the past 10 years, the increase was just 8 percent (about three-quarters of a million).
