Johnson PhotoImaging is hosting their Summer Trade-In - Trade Up Event Friday and Saturday, June 14th and 15th.

An excellent time to clear out your photo closet of unwanted photo gear. The trade in specialist will be in the store evaluating your equipment for trade. They will either buy your gear or you can trade in for store credit for your new camera gear.

Here's what they are looking for! Digital or interchangeable lens (DSLR or Mirrorless) cameras - Lenses and accessories - Canon, Nikon, Leica, Pentax, Sony, Tamron and many more brands! Need a quick estimate? To see if you have the kind of gear we are looking for, call Rob at 850-476-2697.

CAMERA BASICS & BEYOND
Camera Basics -  A guide through the basic menu & button controls, operations and workflow. Along with practical tips about your new interchangeable lens system (ILC). What will cover: • Exposure • Composition • Use of Lenses • Subject Development • Creative Thinking • Menu Navigation • Maintenance. FEE $75 - *Free with your camera purchase from JPI. June 1st @ 9AM
Beyond Camera Basics - You've left the Automatic Zone, but you still need some help navigating the rules of the road. Join Steve and Faith Hutchinson as they guide you with hands on shooting techniques. You'll learn how to shoot in manual working with the exposure triangle (ISO • Aperture • Shutter). Bring your interchangeable lens camera - Mirrorless or D-SLR - with a fully charged battery. FEE $75 - *Free with you camera purchase from JPI. June 4th @ 6PM .
*FREE class with camera purchase from JPI is valid for either Camera Basics or Beyond Camera Basics. Not for both classes.
Lightroom Workflow
- From Camera to Print -
Lightroom is a powerful tool for the photographer. It’s an organizer, Editor, and can output your creative works in a myriad of ways. The big question is, “Where do you start?” Based upon the idea that “one of the best ways of learning is doing”, we’ve set up a new class that takes you through the process - several times. We’ll take a look at some of the variations and options, while building a solid foundation in the overall workflow. The class is limited to 6 students and runs 2 hours approximately. Bring your camera and your laptop (fully charged, with a copy of Lightroom). FEE $75 - May 30th @ 6PM .

Base level knowledge of your computer's filing system, storage locations, and operational shortcuts will go a long way towards enhancing your experience in this course and with your computer system.
Working with Flash
This class will teach the fundamentals of using available light and when to use light modifiers in various photographic situations. Learn how both natural and artificial light will affect the quality of your photos. We will also discuss how to use built-in flash and the benefits of external flashes, also called speedlights. Following the classroom instruction, students will try out some flashes and techniques in the studio. FEE - $75 - June 18th @ 6pm .

Students should bring an interchangeable lens camera - either a D-SLR or mirrorless. Please be sure to fully charge your camera's battery. Bring a memory card you don't mind formatting and a way to take notes.

Camera Lessons - Things to do before your appointment - Please be sure your camera batteries are charged. It is recommended to bring a memory card that is empty or contains no important pictures or videos. These appointments are usually very technical about a specific equipment or photo technique. Please bring something to jot down notes. It is recommended that your write down 3 to 5 questions about what you would like discuss or learn. Available most days after 6pm, Monday through Friday.
Computer Photo Editing Lessons - Things to do before your appointment - Please be sure your lap top is charged. These appointments are usually very technical about a specific program. Please bring something to jot down notes. It is recommended that your write down 3 to 5 questions about what you would like discuss or learn prior to your appointment. Most software uses the computer operating system as the basis for the applications uses. Having a base knowledge of shortcut keys and the computer’s filing system help you better understand the software’s features and functions. Please be sure the correct software is installed before your appointment. Available on most days during the day, Monday through Friday.
UPCOMING FIELD TRIPS
Low Light Excursion - Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park - You don't need expensive photo gear or a telescope to photograph the stars at night. What you do need is a camera with manual settings, that can swap out lenses and a tripod. The other thing you need is a very dark sky. Join Foto Dono on field trip to photograph the Milky Way at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park and Wild Island, FL. This area is one of the few places in Florida that have the darkest skies. Included is field instruction, image review and discussion. What is not included is transportation, overnight accommodations, park fee and food. Register here and for more info . Fee: $79 - 2 nights June 1st to June 2nd. Shooting between 10PM to 1AM each night.
Wilderness Photo Safari - A wildlife photo safari with Foto Dono in the heart of Florida. Photograph from safari trucks equipped with stadium seating and a full-coverage canvas shade. Plus opportunities to feed the animals. Over 450 animals with 50 different species in wide open 260 acres of Florida wilderness. All of this is located north of Lakeland, FL in Safari Wilderness Ranch. Here are just some of species at the ranch - scimitar-horned oryx (a species that is extinct in the wild), common and defassa waterbuck, zebra, camels, ring-tailed and red-ruffed lemurs, red lechwe, nilgai, kudu, watusi cattle, and more! You'll also have a chance to see a variety of native wildlife too. - Fee $99 - June 30th at 8:30 AM .

SONY MIRRORLESS USER GROUP  -   Announcing the next meeting for Sony Mirrorless Group on June 11th @ 6:30 PM at JPI.

Please bring 5 JPEG images the show Incongruity - Anomalies of things that don't belong. You can bring them on a thumb drive or memory card. Please place images in a separate folder.

For New Members: This group is open to owners of the following Sony Mirrorless systems a6400/A6500, a7/a7 II/a7 III, a7R/a7R II/a7R III, a7S/a7S II, and a9 cameras.

About the Sony Mirrorless User Group - A community of like-minded Sony Enthusiasts that meets on a regular basis. The Sony Mirrorless User Group is open to the public and photographers interested in Sony mirrorless systems. Hosted by Michael Arbor, the group will explore the exciting world of Sony. There are no fees or dues for joining this group. The group relies on the active participation from all attendees. If you have any questions you may contact Michael Arbor at michael@jpiphoto.com.
LOW LIGHT PHOTO GROUP   - The Group is open to all interchangeable lens cameras (ILC) users who are interested in Low Light Photography. Hosted by   Donovan (Dono) Evans , the group will explore the unique properties of low light photography with presentations and field trips. There are no fees or dues for joining this group, however some group activities have fees. The group relies on the active participation from all attendees. The next meeting is July 18th @ 6:30 PM .

We will have a special quest speaker from Olympus - Carlos Quilichini. Plus a hands on light painting demo. There is a $10 fee for the demo.
OLYMPUS USERS GROUP  - The Group is open to the public and photographers interested in Olympus micro 4/3 mirrorless systems. Hosted by Steve & Faith Hutchinson , Olympus Ambassadors and Workshop Partners . There are no fees or dues for joining this group, however some group activities have fees. The group meets once a month on the 4th Wednesday of the month. The next meeting is May 22nd @ 6:30 PM .
CANON DEMO DAYS
What Would I Do - A photo editing & critique class with Canon Specialist, Jeff Leimbach. He will be teaching his photography class, What I Would Do. This is a FREE class. Bring up to 3 image files, either JPEG or RAW. Jeff will load them up into his computer system and edit and critique them. Seating is limited. Be sure to register here and save your seat. The class is on May 22nd @ 5:00 PM.

Jeff will also be doing a series of Canon Camera Demos in the store from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM May 22nd & 23rd. A perfect time to ask questions and try out Canon camera systems and lenses.
JPI PHOTO CONTEST
IT'S A small WORLD
Johnson PhotoImaging is sponsoring a juried photography exhibit at the Senior Friendship Center in Sarasota, 1888 Brother Geenen Way, Sarasota, FL 34236. The show will run from Nov 1st to Dec 5th. The exhibit is open to all JPI customers, InFocus students and other participants showcasing their recent photography work. The title for the exhibit is "It's a Small World." The theme implies an emphasis on close-up or macro photography, however it is open to interpretation.
 
First Place $200 - Second place - $100 - Third Place - $50. Plus a $50 JPI Gift Card for Viewer's Choice Award to be selected day of the reception.
 
ENTRY FEE - $8 per piece due upon receiving. Entry Fees are non-refundable. You can submit up to six entries.
 
Each work must be unique & be mounted on a 16" x 20" inch black board no more than 3/16" thick. Prints sizes can be between 12"x12" to 16" x 20". Any work that fails to follow this will be disqualified. There are no refunds. Do NOT add any hanging device on the back. Photographer must present the work finished and ready to be displayed at time of drop off. 

Important Dates:
Receiving - October 25th & 26th at JPI.
Reception - November 1st from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at SFC.
Pick Up Work - Dec. 11th - Dec. 14th at JPI.
