2019 Spring Excellence Exchange
A Message from Marky Medeiros, , MSN, RN

Happy Spring and welcome to the 2nd quarter edition of the Excellence Exchange. As the new year began, so did document submissions using the 2019 Magnet ® Manual. Keep an eye out for manual updates.Questions will come up after the first set of documents have been reviewed, and historically after new manuals come out so do updates to the manual, which are posted on the ANCC website.

The Hierarchy of Magnet® Document Evidence

confused_female_accountant.jpg
The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) requires organizations to submit evidence to support the stories included in their Magnet® document. And while the Empirical Outcome (EO) Sources of Evidence (SoE) do not require evidence unless specifically requested, the non-EOs all require evidence to support your stories and/or examples.

Here's a common pitfall: when writing your document, you can have an outstanding and detailed non-EO source of evidence story or example, yet without strong evidence your story or example will be a big flop.

Excellence Exchange Corner (Submit your questions)

Q:  One of the areas we often receive questions about, and is confusing to address, is TL6 and TL7 in the 2019 Magnet ® Manual. These SoEs deal with Mentoring and Succession Planning respectively for various level of nurses. What is the difference between these two SoEs, how do we address them, and what evidence do we need to supply?

Client Success!

We are honored to share that The King Hussein Cancer Center has received Magnet® designation. The King Hussein Cancer Center is the first oncology hospital outside the United States to receive MAGNET® designation. Only 8% of hospitals in the United States of America, and 9 international health care institutions have been honored to receive this recognition. We were privileged to partner with King Hussein Cancer Center for a readiness assessment, education, and the action plan/road map that began their Magnet® journey.

Client Success!

Congratulations to Newport Hospital, Newport RI, for receiving their 4th Magnet® designation! Less than 3 percent of Magnet® hospitals have earned Magnet® recognition four consecutive times. In addition to their redesignation, ANCC identified 4 exemplars from their document and site visit. Their exemplars included 3 Nurse Sensitive Indicators that exceed the benchmark for 8 consecutive quarters. We are proud to have partnered with them on their continued journey and our continued 100% success rate.
