Youth Group closes busy year
by Elizabeth Wolterink, Youth Group Leader

Thank you all for voting in the Youth Group's icon project!  We had lots of votes for our "most saintly saint," with all of the saints receiving some votes.  The winner was St. Michael the Archangel, written by Travis Holl.  Travis' icon pictured St. Michael slaying a dragon, representing the triumph of the hosts of God over the forces of evil.  All of the students were so pleased to be able to share their finished works with you and we hope you enjoyed seeing and reading about them!

It's been a busy quarter click here to continue reading...

Grave Marker for Connie Vaughan
Rev. Kathryn and a couple members of the Daughters of the King committed Connie Vaughan's ashes to the earth last week in the small cemetery in Onekama.  We noticed that there is no marker to indicate where Connie has been laid, and would like to provide a marker for her grave site.  If you would like to donate toward a total cost of $395, please contact Ellen in the office.

Are you being called to serve on Altar Guild?
How do you think of holiday meals such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter? Most of us anticipate a gathering of family and friends at a table set with special care. Maybe china, silver and crystal from multiple generations of someone's family? A time to enjoy a celebration that you might have been looking forward to for weeks or months even!

Isn't this what we do each time we celebrate the Eucharist in church? The church is prepared with care to remind us of the special time we spend together and that it is meant to be a place "apart from the world" that we toil in daily. The silver, vestments, crosses, candles and more remind us that we gather to share a nourishing meal for our minds, hearts and souls.

The Altar Guild is a volunteer group of the parish whose ministry is to care for the altar, vestments, vessels, and altar linens of the parish. Altar Guild members prepare the sanctuary for services, and clean up afterwards. Three services on the weekend and one mid-week service is the main work of this group. The time spent in these tasks is not very long, but it is a weekly responsibility 52 week-ends a year and those special occasions that do not fall on a weekend. As the expression states, "many hands make light work".   The hands of the Altar Guild are aging, so we are looking to recruit more hands for this important work of the parish family. Men, women and young people serve in Altar Guilds. Why not make this a ministry that your family could do together?

Prayerfully consider the Altar Guild as a simple yet vitally important ministry for our church family. If you would like to learn more about the commitment to serve, please speak with Kathryn, our rector, or email her at [email protected].

Pastoral Care at Grace
In order to address pastoral care needs of the whole parish, not only those who are ill, homebound, or otherwise unable to be physically present for church services, we are currently in the process of re-visioning how we can more effectively tend to those needs. In order to move forward with our plans, we would like to identify which service each of us usually attends. Please take the time to fill out a blank white card (located on the table in the Commons, next to the basket) with your current contact information, the names of those in your household, and which service you attend, and place the card in the basket. Thank you!

Families Against Narcotics (FAN)
Local Launch Thurs., June 21
Central United Methodist
Reception 5:15p, Program 6p

Founded in 2007, Families Against Narcotics is a grass roots organization based in Macomb County, Michigan, with 22 chapters in Michigan and North Carolina. FAN provides a safe place where individuals and families struggling with addiction can learn about addiction from others who have had similar experiences. FAN also brings resources to those support meetings, including the volunteer efforts of LOCAL doctors, psychiatrists, pharmacists, law enforcement and judges.  Check out our poster in the parish hall for information about our local executive and advisory board members.

We work tirelessly, educating young adults, parents, school personnel, law enforcement, judges, and most of all doctors and other health care professionals of the dangers of prescription drug abuse, especially painkillers.

The event is free, but please RSVP to [email protected]

Turn in your Oleson's receipts to benefit the Grace Food Pantry!

Oleson's Community Share Program

Here's how it works:
  1. You shop at Oleson's for groceries (liquor sales do not qualify for points)
  2. Turn in your receipts to the church.  Look for the envelope on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall, and place your receipts inside it.
  3. We submit receipts back to Oleson's
  4. We are granted cash rewards for the food pantry ($1 spent on groceries = 1 cent in Community Share points)

For every $5000 in receipts we submit, we receive $50 in cash for our food pantry.  Every little bit helps!

Thank you for participating!
