Convention offering

The Love Your Neighbor as Yourself 2018 Convention offering will provide financial support for Concordia Lutheran Mission.  Concordia Lutheran Mission is a fresh outreach of Mount Calvary, Lititz, PA to share the gospel of Jesus with the 185,000 people who live in Lebanon County, PA, where there is no LCMS congregation. We're convinced the best way to reach as many people as possible with the gospel is for churches to plant churches. With members from Mount Calvary and Calvary, Mechanicsburg, we are building community awareness and engaging in gospel conversations for a public launch this October. For families looking for an option for their children grades 5-8 while they are at the upcoming 56th English District Convention

  

Camp Concordia is the year-round staffed LCMS children's residential summer camp in Michigan just two hours west of Ann Arbor. Consider sending your 5-8th grader to overnight camp while you attend the English District Convention. Check-in begins on Sunday, June 17, 2018 and check-out is on Friday, June 22, 2018. The latest Military Share Program food distribution took place on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Calvary, Mechanicsburg, PA. Twenty-three families totaling 69 individuals received food. Calvary has partnered with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to provide grocery items for veterans, active service members and their families.

Served

On Monday, March 26, 2018,Chapel of the Cross, St. Louis, MO, had its semi-annual Homebound and Seniors' service and luncheon. The day started at 11:00 AM with a Communion service in church. After the service, a delicious meal of pork loin, mashed potatoes, vegetables, dessert and candy was served. Members who were unable to make it to this event by themselves were picked up and transported to church in a bus or private vehicle. There were 48 people who attended and 21 people who assisted with the event.

Fond farewell

Vacancy Pastor, The Rev. Don Schmiege led worship on his last Sunday and received special recognition and gifts from the congregation at Hope, Hastings, MN.

A quick visit

Carol George, a member of the English District Board of Directors from Trinity, Erie, PA, recently visited the Hong Kong Mission and Church of All Nations. Carol was very impressed with the warmth in which she and her niece were received. After worship, they were invited to stay for a delicious lunch and learned the ways the church is serving the needs of many. Carol is pictured below with The Rev. Shaun Daugherty (left) serving in Shenzhen, China and The Rev. Joel Scheiwe (right), pastor of Church of All Nations.

Spring sing event

Each year at Trinity, Villa Park, IL,  the Dorcas Guild hosts a spring event to raise money for various ministries in the community. This year they featured Randy McCallister, a local recording artist, to sing a tribute to Frank Sinatra.  In the photos you see Randy "doing it his way" and Amber Corrigan, a Trinity youth, being serenaded. The Dorcas Guild raised money for the Villa Park Boxing Club, a ministry hosted at Trinity to encourage teens with productive afterschool activities and the Sharing Connection, a local ministry to provide household goods and furniture to families in crisis.

Sunset Walk-A-Thon

The 2018 West Portal Lutheran, San Francisco, CA, Walk-a-Thon was a hit amongst Sunset students. The weather was clear, yet cool, and perfect for exercising outside. Kindergarten students kicked things off by running lap after lap until their half hour expired. The third, second, and first grades followed. Parents were at every turn and corner, waving ribbons and cheering on the runners.

Congratulations!

Lizzy, a senior at Redeemer, Oakmont, PA, had winning essays in the American Legion essay scholarship contest. She won first place for the local post and the 33rd District. She also won first place for the entire county and was recognized at the Youth Achievement Dinner. In her final round, Lizzy took third place in the entire Western Section. Congratulations on these great accomplishments!

Award-winning students

Congratulations to all the Bethesda International Academy, Chicago students who achieved honor roll status for the third quarter! Additionally, first and second grade students did a phenomenal job leading chapel last week. They reminded us what the Scriptures say in James 1:19: "Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry."

Little artists

Art week at Shepherd King Preschool, West Bloomfield, MI, got off to a great start in Pre-K. The artists had so much fun experimenting with different techniques. They painted on a canvas, prepped watercolor paper with glue for a painting, and made a class project. They will host an art show on May 31, 2018.

Living science

Little scientists at Grace Beginnings Preschool, Wyoming, MI, have been keenly tracking the progress of their caterpillars, waiting for the butterflies to emerge.
