STARTING FIELD SET FOR
2018 U.S. OPEN LOCAL QUALIFIER
at RAVENWOOD on MAY 7
57 GOLFERS FROM 6 STATES
and 4 COUNTRIES to COMPETE
for the CHANCE TO QUALIFY
FOR THIS YEAR'S
U.S. OPEN AT SHINNECOCK!
On Monday, May 7, a diverse field of 57 golfers - pros and amateurs, from near and far - will compete in the
2018 U.S. Open Local Qualifier at Ravenwood Golf Club, each following a dream that they hope will lead to
Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on Long Island and the
118th U.S. Open Championship on June 14 through 17.
The Local Qualifier is a one-day, 18 hole, stroke play event from which only the top finishers will qualify to go to the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying round on June 4 - which features a one-day, 36 hole format. From the 57-player field at Ravenwood, only 3 players will advance to one of 10 Sectional Qualifiers in the U.S., with the next two finishers named as alternates to the field.
Among the players in the field for the Local Qualifier at Ravenwood are 1993 RDGA District Champion
Jeff Peck, now a PGA Club Professional from North Carolina;
Adam Condello of Locust Hill Country Club, a two-time RDGA Player of the Year and winner of the 2017 New York State Amateur; top New York State amateur
Alec Bard - as well as several former amateurs now playing professionally, including Rochester's
Yarik Merkulov and
Jeff Urzetta, as well as Buffalo's
Billy Gaffney.
Also in the field are several top current local amateurs such as
Andrew Beiber,
Colin Dubnik,
Andrew Fedele,
Kevin Peters and
James Tee. Last year, Condello, Dubnik and Gaffney all advanced to the Sectional Qualifying round through the Rochester Local Qualifier.
Tee times for Monday's U.S. Open Local Qualifier at Ravenwood Golf Club begin at 8 am and continue through 11 a.m.
