The Sterling Heights Regional Chamber is proud to announce the US Department of Transportation has given preliminary approval to the joint application by Macomb County, City of Sterling Heights and City of Warren for a $97.8 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant to help fund a $184.6 million reconstruction of Mound Road. This project is vitally important as the Mound Road Corridor is a major artery for national automotive, defense, aerospace and advanced manufacturing installations.

Chamber President and CEO Melanie Davis is a member of the Innovate Mound Executive Committee, the group assembled to apply for this grant and advocate for its approval, and the Chamber and several of its members supported the Innovate Mound efforts through calls, letter writing and more. A special thanks to our Michigan congressional delegation including Senator Peters, Senator Stabenow, Congressman Levin and Congressman Mitchell for their support of this initiative as well. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR STERLINGFEST!

Summer is coming and so is Sterlingfest. We are seeking volunteers to assist us with our refreshment and concession areas during this three-day event on Thursday, July 26, Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28. We have several beer and wine serving areas where we will need assistance: The Pavilion Zone, Big Stage Zones and the Jazz Stage Zone. Contact Linda Colton 586.731.5400 X20 or email and she will match you with available time slots.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: BE PART OF "THE NET"
This year, the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce will embark on new territory with our very own magazine for members - the net. We are very excited to announce this publication and how you can be a part of it. We thought about creating a Chamber Directory and knew that it would probably sit on a shelf and not be read, so to encourage you to learn more about fellow members, member services and member events, we decided to create our very own magazine. With the help of Macomb Now Magazine, we anticipate a 24-page glossy magazine, with our own look and feel, telling the stories only we can tell about chamber members and the people behind the businesses the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce interacts with every day.

Any advertising questions you have can be answered by Macomb Now's Ad Sales Representative Diane Bowles at (586.622.6621 x8) or the Chamber's Business Development Director Gina Rieck (586.731.5400 x15).

MEMBER TIP:
DEFERRING TAXABLE INCOME BY CHANGING YOUR METHOD OF ACCOUNTING
by UHY LLP
Tax reform provides an opportunity for simplification and tax relief for "small" businesses. Under the Act, a small business is defined as a taxpayer with average gross receipts during the previous three tax years of $25,000,000 or less. The $25,000,000 limit will be indexed for years after 2018. So what are qualifying taxpayers eligible for?

MEMBER BENEFIT OF THE WEEK:
ACCIDENT FUNDWorkman's Compensation (employer only) - To reward small-business owners for encouraging safety, Accident Fund created Group Programs. Members save money on their workers' compensation, including a 5% up-front discount on their premium and the potential for dividends based on the Group's loss history.

CLOSING THE TECH TALENT GAP
For some, '1 million open tech jobs by 2020' is a looming, overwhelming statistic. For Grand Circus, it's a challenge they want to solve, and a direct line to fulfill their vision: to close the talent gap for employers. The tech training institute, headquartered in Detroit, has launched The Academy, a program for employers to try out Grand Circus grads for 3-6 months, risk free. This solution offers the flexibility to get quality tech talent quickly and affordably. Companies like Accenture have already joined, and 1,000 graduates have already been hired. Read more about the impact below.

M-59 RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT UPDATE FROM MDOT:

Las t week, MDOT was able to reopen the first set of turnarounds that were originally closed this year. This week, they will continue building the crossovers that were closed last week, all while building the mainline roadway with sand and stone in preparation for HMA paving. As this progresses, MDOT is getting ready to begin work on the intersection of M-59 and Romeo Plank Road. Currently, they are still at least two weeks away from starting that work.

Please let MDOT know if you have any questions or comments on the project and how it is going.
