Sunday Worship Services

The message is about knowing ourselves deeply. About living deeply and authentically as to whom our Creator called us to be. We are called to "Know Thyself" and Love our neighbor.

Jordan Decker is a National/International Speaker, Nonprofit Founder, and Accidental Activist. Having known the depths of bullying, suicidal ideation, fear for his life, and his learning that 57% of trans youth will attempt suicide, threw him into the spotlight and out of the closet once again, this time as an Accidental Evangelist! His non-profit "Trans HeartLine" builds bridges between Faith, Spirituality, and Gender using education and advocacy to provide safe post-op housing for gender-affirming surgeries.

Notes Along the Way
Rev marcus
Dear ones,

Our search process for our next Director of Family Ministries has begun! Please help spread the word by sharing the following job announcement widely. The Search Committee (Susan Mathews, Rich Cohen, Sarah Tiederman, Tiffany Rowe, and myself) will be reviewing applications, conducting interviews and hopefully recommending a candidate to the Board in June.

Know anyone who loves building community and supporting the growth of children, youth and families? We are seeking a talented educator to join the staff team of our growing community. We are hiring a Director of Family Ministries to begin in August, 2019. Detailed job description and information on how to apply found here: Job Description.

We know that this new staff member will be vital in continuing to grow our community and support the spiritual lives of our children, youth and families. Thank you for helping us find the right fit!

With you on the journey,
Rev. Marcus Hartlief

Starting new things can be both exciting and terrifying.  Leaving the familiar and heading out into the relative unknown, the liminal space, the creative pregnant in-between is both familiar and strange. My preparation to take leave of UUCM is personal and spiritual growth in and of itself. In ministerial language, it is sometimes called "leave-taking." I/we have a chance to practice healthy goodbyes and relationship endings. Most of us have had plenty of the other kind of relationship endings with dangling closures. So, I invite you to join me in practicing healthy leave-taking. If you have anything that needs to be shared with me in order to have closure, I am open to a letter, call, or a face-to-face moment. Hugs are always welcome too.

Building picnic tables! Service Project, Sunday, June 2 for all ages grades 2-12: A long time in the planning process; we are now ready to start building two picnic tables that will be placed where the playground used to be. The design includes wheelchair accessible seating at the tables. The redwood is reclaimed salvage from trees damaged in last summer's fires. If your kids want to help stain the wood, please bring them in clothes appropriate for this activity.

Basket Share  - Sunday Service, May 26
There will be a basket share on May 26 by Jordan Decker for the Trans HeartLine organization. Half of the offering will go to Trans HeartLine.

Trans HeartLine builds bridges between Faith, Spirituality, and Gender through safe post-op housing and community education. Trans HeartLine is a
501(3)c nonprofit. We have created safe, affordable, post-op housing in the Bay Area. We are focused on creating a healing environment in which gender conformation surgery clients can focus on healing and not survival. Recovering in a safe environment contributes to faster healing with fewer complications. We are educating and advocating in the Faith communities and beyond by having the hard conversations about what it means to be transgender and the challenges we face.

Charades at Game Night - June 7
How do you act out the title of the "Game of Thrones"  TV series without speaking? How quickly could your teammates guess "Middlemarch" if you stomped in place in the middle of the room? The "War" part of Tolstoy's novel might be easy to portray, but what about the "Peace" part? (Would it "sound like" peas or piece?)

Come release your creative side in a low-key pickup game of Charades. Carol and Doug Kerr and Jan Seagrave will be the ringleaders of this tomfoolery, which is being added to the regular Family Games Night beginning Friday, June 7, from 7 to 9 pm. We will gather in the Fireside Room with the rest of the board and card-gamers, but will move shortly thereafter to the Dream Room for our antics. Instructions and the few supplies needed will be provided. Adults and teens are invited to join in. Please bring your ideas for movie,TV, play, song, and novel titles, and very short quotations, for a member of the opposing team to act out silently and for their teammates to guess. Bring potluck snacks to share with all the gamers, to the Fireside Room, if you wish.

For more information, contact Jan Seagrave or Carol Kerr.
Lost and Found

Take a look at the Lost and Found in the foyer. You may find a missing water bottle or coat. We need to clean out the closet. Everything goes at the end of May.

Dinners for Eight concludes June 1
Dinners for Eight (or Six), a long-standing tradition of potluck dinners at members' homes, will conclude for the church year with final dinners on Saturday, June 1st.

Please let Sher Sheldon, at  [email protected] , know if you'd like to host or attend.
