With More Power Comes More Responsibility
How Cruise Lines Are Making It Their Mission To Do Their Part
Although each cruise line is unique, they each have a common trait: they are very concerned and generous when it comes to giving back. We saw this when cruise lines evacuated families during the recent hurricanes and supplied food, water and generators after the hurricane. But it’s not just during natural disasters that they feel the need to take care of oceans, lands and people that live there. Here are a few examples on how each cruise line does its part to make the world a more beautiful place.
Celebrity
I am the most touched by Celebrity’s initiative. They announced Malala Yousafzai, recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize when she was 17 years-old, as the Godmother of their new ship, Celebrity Edge. Malala accepted this honor due to Celebrity’s reputation for their passion on diversity, inclusion and gender equality. Celebrity advocates for women in the workforce, recognizing women in decision making, equal pay and shared power. Celebrity has several women in high power positions, they sponsor the Gay Pride Parade and they focus on education for all.

MSC
MSC is rocking it, too. They partner with the Andrea Bocelli Foundation to help Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world. Focusing on health, education and empowerment. Through their commitment, schools are being built, clean water, food and lighting are supplied, agricultural skills are being established and health care is provided. This entire community is seeing improvements with the help of MSC and their commitment.

Princess
One of the great ways that Princess is helping to make the world a better place is through environmental responsibility. Since 2006, Princess has achieved and maintained certification to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard. Among many things that Princess does to earn this award is minimizing pollution. Princess Cruise Line pioneered shore power. This allows cruise ships to turn off their diesel engines and plug into a power supply at port.

Royal Caribbean
Royal Caribbean is probably the most well-known philanthropist as they were in the news for the recent hurricane disaster. Being the lead cruise line in the industry, they also take ocean quality very seriously. World Wildlife Fund and Royal Caribbean teamed up to help ensure the long-term health of the world’s oceans. They have set sustainability targets to reduce environmental footprints, raise awareness about ocean conservation and support WWF’s global oceans conservation work.
