Member Spotlight

Judy N. Khanyola, RN, RM, BScN, MSc is a Kenyan Registered Community Health Nurse/Midwife. She is a board member of AFREhealth, the African Forum for Research and Education in Health and recently gave remarks on building nursing leadership at the closing session at the Consortium of Universities in Global Health Nursing meeting. 

She has worked as a staff nurse at the Aga Khan University Teaching Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya; as a senior training manager for Mildmay in Kampala, Uganda; as a consultant curriculum specialist for paediatric HIV in Kigali, Rwanda; and palliative care in Gaborone, Botswana and is currently the Africa Regional Nursing Advisor for ICAP at Columbia University in the United States.

Registration opening soon
Registration for ANAC2018: Denver Nov. 8-10 will open in early May. 

Plan to come early for pre-conference activities on Wednesday, Nov. 7. The day will include research workshops, Buprenorphine waiver training and other exciting onsite workshops and sessions.

American Academy of Nursing accepting applications
Applications are now being accepted for the Academy Jonas Policy Scholar Program for the 2018-2020 cohort. Applications will be accepted until May 11.

ANAC co-signs letter in response to The Opioid Crisis Response Act of 2018
ANAC, as a member of the Nursing Community Coalition, joined with AAN and other nursing organizations in co-signing a letter to the Senate in response to draft legislation, The Opioid Crisis Response Act of 2018, urging the use of provider-neutral language and incorporation of all APRN roles in the legislation to expand access to care for patients with opioid addictions. Enhancing Nursing Workforce Capacity to Achieve HIV Epidemic Control is free to registered AIDS 2018 attendees and will feature keynote speaker Dr. Sheila D. Tlou. More information.

AFREhealth call for abstracts closes May 30
The African Forum for Research and Education in Health will be held Aug. 5-8 in Durban, South Africa. The theme is Towards Achieving Universal Health Coverage in Africa - Creating Synergies and Capacity Synergies and Capacity through Education, Research and Quality Health Services. More information and to submit an abstract.

The ANAC global committee invites international members to submit requests for support and services in areas such as mentoring, clinical expertise, collaborations, research and curriculum development. Please note that not all requests may be able to be met, but all will be reviewed.

His Health offers six courses designed to help close the knowledge gap that exists among the healthcare community about the unique health needs of  HIV positive Black MSM patients and are led by HIV specialists in the medical and nursing fields. Learn more.
