A Message from the  Superintendent

Dear Lovejoy Community:

We are in the midst of budget season as we prepare for the 2018-2019 school year. While we will take another hit with the continued loss of state funds, our Board has provided direction related to the important aspects of the budget.

As you may remember, the Board of Trustees and our administrative team began our work in November 2017 to prepare the budget for the 2018-2019 school year. Following is the criteria the Board has directed to be met in the 2018-2019 budget:
  • Find a way to continue to protect the Lovejoy programs which are contributing directly to student achievement and/or the student experience.
  • Adjust teacher compensation to ensure our teacher pay scales are competitive with our surrounding districts.
  • Add security personnel, which will increase the safety of our students.
The challenge we must overcome is accomplishing this in light of the fact that we will once again experience a loss of state funds of more than $1 million.

The Board has directed the administration to prepare a budget which does not require any fees for services. This means Lovejoy ISD will not be charging fees for transportation or extracurricular activities for the 2018-2019 school year.

A portion of the shortfall from state revenue will be made up by increased revenue from football season tickets as well as the recently completed Campus Campouts.

The board must adopt a final budget by June 30, 2018.

Campus Campouts

Lovejoy Elementary, Hart Elementary and Puster Elementary Schools have all held their inaugural campouts and each event was a great success. The Campouts offered a wide variety of activities, including bounce houses, glow parties, movies under the stars, and much more. The grand finale of each event was a campout on the playgrounds.

Thank you to the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make these events so incredible and to all of the campers for joining us. Great memories were made at the Campouts and we look forward to future events.

National Speech and Debate
Academic All-American

Congratulations to LHS Senior Anna Rouse who earned the distinction of the National Speech and Debate Association's Academic All-American award. This award recognizes academic rigor, competitive speech and debate success, and personal excellence. Out of more than 141,000 student members, fewer than 500 students earn this award each year. This puts Anna among the top half of 1% of all student members across the country. We are #lovejoyproud.

Girl Scout Gold Award

LHS Senior Neha Kapur will be receiving her Gold award, which is the highest award in Girl Scouts. For her project, Neha hosted First Aid workshops to teach elementary aged children about the importance of and how to administer first aid. Neha says, "My hope with this project was to be able to teach basic first aid to as many kids as possible so they are prepared if something happens in the future." She thanks Lovejoy for the opportunity to conduct workshops in all three elementary schools. "It was such a pleasure to spend time with these brilliant kids, and I had so much fun teaching them." You may click here to view a video of Neha leading the workshops.

Safety and Security

Safety and security remain our highest priorities. We have specific plans at each campus in response to a security breach. We continue to consider additional measures to address both the perception of safety, as well as the actual safety on every campus.

We would like to ask for your assistance. If you have information about a threat to the safety of a student, staff member, campus, or the district, we ask you to report it. SafeSchools is our online safety compliance program, which is specifically designed for school use, incident management, and bullying reporting. This program allows students, staff, and parents to report tips on bullying, harassment, intimidation, weapons, drugs, or other threats to school safety by e-mail, via website, text, or by calling 469.919.5861. This system allows us to stay connected and to prevent incidents before they occur. Staff are immediately notified of every tip, and can effectively track and manage incidents to resolution in this web-based system. Multiple administrators throughout the district monitor submissions to assure entries are addressed in a timely manner. Once a tip is entered, tipsters can easily check on the status of their tip and remain anonymous. School officials are notified through e-mail when tips are created and/or updated.

Posters are displayed in every classroom and hallways throughout each of the Lovejoy campuses, providing information as to how to enter a tip.

If you have information about a threat to our safety, do your part and report it. Please remember, you may remain anonymous.

As always, your questions, concerns, and suggestions regarding school security are welcome. Please email, text or call me with your thoughts. My cell number is 972.415.8129.
