SMALL CELL INFRASTRUCTURE DEPLOYMENT IN MUNICIPAL PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

 

We want to alert our members to two upcoming opportunities to learn about the administration and implications of HB 478, legislation recently passed by the Ohio General Assembly that sets guidelines for the deployment of small cell infrastructure in municipal public right of ways. The legislation becomes effective August 1, 2018 and it is important municipal leaders are familiar with the changes and actions local leaders will want to consider in the interest of managing future requests by telecommunication providers and the anticipated increase in installation applications.

  

The first opportunity is a free workshop hosted by the City of Dublin and the Ohio Municipal League to discuss best practices for the development and adoption of municipal design guidelines related to infrastructure deployment. The workshop will include an overview of HB 478 guidelines, presentation of sample guidelines and a panel discussion with telecommunication industry representatives, with time for discussion. The workshop will take place on Monday, June 18, 2018 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Dublin Integrated Education Center (6805 Bobcat Way, Dublin, OH 43016-1407 ). Please RSVP by 5 pm on Thursday, June 14th to [email protected].

The second opportunity is a webinar hosted by the Ohio Municipal Attorneys Association and the Ohio Municipal League, title "Small Cell Wireless Service & Placement of Facilities in the Public Way." The program, which will be a discussion of the new law, will be presented by Gregory J. Dunn from Ice Miller law firm who was instrumental in the development of the language adopted by the legislature. Mr. Dunn has represented municipal and telecommunication clients for over 33 years and has a comprehensive understanding up public utility and broadband issues.
