Headmaster's Update
  • Gratitude for Mrs. Emily Minton: We have been given a great gift in the person of Mrs. Emily Minton these past three years at Saint Agnes School.  Not only did she serve the institution for two years as a dynamite 3rd grade teacher and well-respected faculty colleague, but she also took the mantle of Lower School Director this past year with grace, hard work, and a willingness to do anything necessary to make our school better! Our Lower School is a better place for kids to learn and teachers to teach because of her direction. In true Minton-fashion, she passes most of the compliments she deserves on to her faculty:

Mrs. Minton says, "Aside from the tremendous academic growth of our students, K-6 teachers have humbly led the Lower School in the quiet day-to-day accomplishments that, when combined, yield another successful school year full of life and learning. It is hidden in the mundane daily routines that the beauty of student growth sprouts. We can attribute its continual development to the tender nourishment, through time and energy, that each teacher takes with his/her students. More than any flashy awards or accolades, these teachers unassumingly work each day to accomplish one of the most beautiful and amazing tasks in this world which, as advised by Saint John Baptiste de la Salle, is to 'Enkindle the love of Jesus in the hearts of the young.'"

On a personal level, I am grateful for Mrs. Minton's attention to detail, her unremittingly positive attitude, and her professionalism in all things Kindergarten through 6th grade. Her special gifts in instruction, most especially with struggling readers, will be missed greatly. Most of all, Mrs. Minton embodies our school's mission of forming Catholic hearts and minds in faith, reason, and virtue (one small example of which is knowing the name of every Lower School student.) At the end of June, Mrs. Minton will leave us to care for her baby. Please pray for her as she takes up the challenges and beauties of full-time motherhood.
  • Interim Lower School Director for 2018-19: With Mrs. Minton's departure, I am pleased to announce that Mr. Michael Adkins will take on the role of Interim Lower School Director. After working the past three months to (unsuccessfully) secure a director, I approached Mr. Adkins and asked him to serve in this role for one year. I'm extremely grateful for his willingness to serve in this capacity and am confident that he will rise to the challenge. Mr. Adkins will begin his 10th year of service this fall, and he has been chiefly responsible for the curricular improvements in our PreK-12 academic program. We are still working out how he will balance these new responsibilities with his role as Academic Dean, but that will be part of this summer's planning sessions. Next year, we will conduct a national search for a more permanent Lower School Director.
  • Sisters Arrive on August 9th: McGough Construction is on schedule to finish the Convent renovations prior to the sisters' arrival in August. The sisters are set to move in Thursday, August 9, and we have begun planning a nice "Welcome-to-Your-New-Home" event! Please continue to pray for their moving preparations and safe arrival. Feel free to contact us if you think of considerations in welcoming them.
  • Summer Prayers: We wish you and all of our families a happy, restful, and refreshing summer break! May your summer endeavors, whatever they are, bear much fruit. May the Holy Spirit animate each of your hearts with grace and peace. And thank you for entrusting your student to Saint Agnes School. We will be praying for everybody to have a safe summer filled with good, clean fun! Please continue to pray for Saint Agnes School and for unity among our faculty, parents, students, and administration. We cannot take for granted the gift this community is to all of our families.

Our communications during the summer will be less frequent, but we will continue to update you on matters relevant to the start of the 2018-19 school year.
Prayers for the Ostertag Family
The funeral for Jill Ostertag, former Saint Agnes parent and parishioner, will be held at 1:30PM Wednesday, June 13 at the Church of Saint Agnes. A journal will be available at the Mass and reception afterwards for recording memories of Jill. The memory journal will be given to Jill's children.

A friend of the Ostertag family is collecting donations for 30 Masses to be offered for Jill through the Marian Fathers (30 consecutive Masses, 30 days in a row, as in the Gregorian tradition). Each Mass is $10, but any contribution is gratefully welcomed. Please contact Patty Mathews at 651-454-5007 if you would like to help honor Jill or have any questions.

Please keep in your prayers Jill's husband Nate, their six children, and the entire Ostertag family. Let perpetual light shine upon her, and may she rest in peace!
Aggie Softball State Tournament Recap
Aggie softball returned to the state tournament this past weekend for the second time in two years following their victory over Concordia Academy in the section championship. In the quarterfinal round of the state tournament, the Aggies lost a nail-biter (2-1) to the #2 seed Annandale: the tying run was thrown out at home plate in the bottom of the 7th inning, ending the game. In the consolation round, the Aggies took a 1-0 lead against Winona Cotter before surrendering 5 runs in the 7th inning during a heavy downpour of rain. The Aggies ended their season with a record of 20-6. Congratulations to Aggie softball on a terrific year!
