Trustees honor NUSD's 'Classified Employees of the Year' including district winner Juanamaria DeAnda

The Board of Trustees recognized the NUSD Classified Employees of the Year and the 2020 District Classified Employee of the Year at the February 12 board meeting. Each honoree was selected because they are committed, collaborative, caring and exemplary, and has contributed to the growth and success of Natomas Unified. We thank them for all the work they do each and every day for children.

NUSD Recognizes School Counselors During 'National School Counseling Week'

NUSD appreciates all of its counselors and the critical role they play in guiding our students to be successful in school and beyond when they attend college and pursue careers. During the week of Feb. 3-7, we showed our appreciation in a variety of ways during National School Counseling Week. From breakfast treats to a delicious lunch delivered by students and parents simply saying, "Thank you for all that you do for kids," we wanted our counselors to know that we truly appreciate the work they do each and every day. These highlight photos are a sample of the amazing counselors that we have in Natomas Unified.
High School Students: Apply now for 'Closing the Digital Divide' Scholarship Program

To encourage and empower children to realize their full potential, Board President Lisa Kaplan and her husband, B.G.  Heiland are proud to present the Kaplan4kids "Closing the Digital Divide" scholarship to outstanding students  overcoming adversity who are currently enrolled at Leroy Greene Academy, Natomas High School, Inderkum High  School, or Discovery High School. Foster youth, homeless, and those who demonstrate financial need are strongly  encouraged to apply. Completed applications must be received by March 16, 2020 (4:30 p.m.) to be eligible or  postmarked by March 13th.
'Every Student Succeeding' award recipients beat the odds and excel in school and life

Often described as one of the most inspiring events of the entire year: Every Student Succeeding honors students who have overcome hardships or obstacles to succeed in school.

On February 7th, Superintendent Chris Evans and Board President Lisa Kaplan, Trustees Scott Dosick and Susan Heredia, along with many others, had the privilege of celebrating 14 remarkable students for demonstrating perseverance, determination, spirit and grit.
Get Ready 11th-Graders -- the SAT is two weeks away

Each year, more and more Natomas graduates go to college, and we're doing our part by offering the SAT, free of charge during the school day to 11th-graders at Inderkum, Natomas and Discovery high schools, and Leroy Greene Academy. Scoring high on the SAT can make a big difference in getting accepted to a favorite college and qualifying for scholarships. So 11th-graders should start preparing now to take the test on March 4th. Free SAT practice tools are available online from the Khan Academy and College Board.

Girls Who Code at Bannon Creek School

Bannon Creek School offers Girls Who Code for girls in middle school grades 6th through 8th. The activities/lessons taught in this class are used to further student interest in 21st century computer programming in addition to improving critically thinking skills in all academic areas.
California's International Baccalaureate Association Awards Inderkum High Two Statewide Awards

California's International Baccalaureate association has awarded Inderkum High School two prestigious statewide awards, including CAWS Exemplary IB Educator and Nancy & Cliff Forster Lifelong Learner for a student in IB's Middle Years Programme (MYP).
Welcome aboard, Antranig Sameen!

Congratulations to Antranig Sameen of Discovery High School for being installed Student Board Member of the Natomas Unified School District Board of Trustees. K-5 Dual Immersion School on the Horizon

We have some exciting news to share with you! We are in the beginning stages of discussions to potentially build a new K-5 elementary school on the east end of Club Center Drive to relieve future enrollment pressures in that area and add an awesome new academic program.

Early Bird Registration extended for Natomas 5K event

Early Bird Registration for the Natomas 5K has been extended to Feb. 28, so you can save money by signing up now at Natomas5k.org

This nonprofit community event, which raises money for college scholarships and student Chromebook grants, will be held April 25th at Inderkum High.

The Natomas Schools Foundation organizes this annual 5K to bring the community together for fun, exercise, and to raise funds for the benefit of students in all NUSD schools, charter and non-charter. Hundreds of runners and walkers participated last year. The foundation also is looking for sponsors.
