DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS
Town Challenge Race Series
Biking season has finally arrived, and the Town Challenge MTB Race Series will be hosting a season kickoff party this coming Wednesday, May 22 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Otto Pint. Racing will officially begin on Wednesday, June 5 at Marabou Ranch. Visit the website for updates and additional information on this year's series. We look forward to racing with you this summer!
Social Gardening Program
If you need a break from the gray weather this week, a visit to the Yampa River Botanic Park will surely brighten your day. Spring is in full bloom at the park, and the Social Gardening program is officially up and running. Meet at the park's gardening shed at 9 AM each Wednesday to enjoy a few hours with friends and help maintain one of over 50 gardens inside the park.
Summer Camp Bike Donations
The city's Summer Camp is looking for donations of children's bikes to help get campers in the Mountaineers Camp (4th to 6th grades) out for fun adventures along the Yampa River Core Trail this summer. Bikes must be in working condition, and the appropriate size for youth 9 to 12 years old. Bikes can be dropped off at the Parks and Recreation office building through June 14.
Emerald Mountain Trails Open
Despite the cooler, wet weather this spring, the majority of Emerald Mountain's lower singletrack trails are now open. Please be aware that the forecast for the upcoming week will likely change trail conditions. We don't always have the resources to check every trail after a weather event, so be aware of changing conditions and please do not hike or ride muddy trails.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Yampa River Festival
The annual Yampa River Festival, hosted by Friends of the Yampa, is the premier opportunity to celebrate the river while also enjoying spring flows. This year's festival takes place May 30 through June 2, and includes recreational events in and around the river, as well as parties, fundraisers and speaking functions. Visit the Friends of the Yampa website for a full festival schedule!
Steamboat Marathon
The 38th annual Steamboat Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K takes place on Sunday, June 2. Enjoy running through the Yampa Valley's green countryside, surrounded by snow-capped mountains.
