Vehicle News
Thanks to the sponsorship of the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, Valley CAN hosts Tune In & Tune Up events throughout the San Joaquin Valley, providing residents with free emissions tests to determine whether their vehicle qualifies for free repairs at a local STAR certified smog shop. If your vehicle fails our emissions test, Valley CAN will give you a $500 voucher for emission-related repairs at a local smog STAR-certified smog shop. The $500 can only be used for diagnostics, smog testing, smog repair work, and certification.
Let us not forget about saving some money on gas for Flex Fuel Vehicles. Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFVs) can fill up with E85 -- a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline - currently $2.99 per gallon. The Shell station at 4050 White Lane (corner of White Lane and Gosford) recently partnered with Pearson Fuels, California's largest E85 Flex Fuel distributor, to become Bakersfield's first E85 Flex Fuel station. The Shell station also continues to offer customers conventional gasoline and diesel fuels.
More than 1.2 million FFVs, which include later-model Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150 and other popular vehicles - are on the road in California today. All FFVs can run on either E85 or gasoline. These vehicles can be identified by a "Flex Fuel" nameplate, typically located on the rear of the vehicle, and many also have yellow gas caps for easy identification. Drivers also can consult their owner's manual or look up the vehicle make, model and year. So, stop by Shell Station if your car is FFV and "ethanol" up!
