Deacon Arthur Bautista

Last Saturday, our seminarian Arthur Bautista was ordained a deacon for the Archdiocese of Chicago.  Arthur celebrated his first Mass as a deacon last Sunday at the 10:00 am Mass, which means that he assisted Fr. Brad Zamora at the altar and preached his first homily.

As you can imagine, this was an enormous step on Arthur's path to eventually being ordained a priest, which will happen next May.  Throughout this year, Arthur will continue to serve as a deacon at St. Josaphat Parish sharing responsibilities with Deacon Pat Casey.

This means that Arthur will be on to preach at Sunday Masses at least one weekend a month.  He will celebrate baptisms and welcome new members into our Church. He will help Deacon Pat and I prepare couples for marriage. And hopefully, Arthur will have the opportunity to preside at a few wedding ceremonies this year. Arthur will be doing all of these things on the weekends since he will continue to be a full-time student at Mundelein Seminary as he completes his 4th Year of Theology studies.

I'm sure you will agree that Arthur has been a great blessing to our community.  It has been fantastic for our young parishioners to get to know Arthur and learn about his vocation.  It is my hope that Arthur's wonderful example of service and his joy in his ministry will inspire our young parishioners to pray about vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

Please keep Deacon Arthur in your prayers.  And please take the time to congratulate him on his ordination to the diaconate and let him know of your support.

God Bless,
